Can anybody show me their pottery barn rooms? Does it ever look like the catalog? Does it hold up?

Well, I have no idea how to post a picture, and I'm not sure if I have a pic of this room anyhow to share but I will try to describe and answer your question anyways.

In my living room, we have two white pottery barn ledge shelves offset, with some potterybarn picture frames on them over our entertainment center (it's a target entertainment center). And we have two pottery barn lamps on each end. It looks pretty darn near a "catalog" display. Across the room above the large sectional sofa (which I bought at Kaufmann's but looks like the pottery barn ones), is a wall mounted iron candle holder thing that is from Crate and Barrel (not PB, but close). My other lamps were from a place called Bombay company (I think they closed). So it's not totally PB, but close. All neutral colors. And we have a lot of windows in that room so it's airy like much of the PB catalog rooms. I loved it 6 years ago when I put it together and I still love it. So if you mean will it hold up in terms of taste and style, I say yes - if you like it now, you will probably like it later. In terms of quality? The stuff from 6-10 years ago has, but I can't speak for today's.

Side note: I also have the bay leaf wreathe and garland from the PB holiday collection about 5 years ago that I put up around the fireplace - when I add that, it really does look like the catalog.

Minus all the toddler toys that now litter my house. Now it's Pottery Barn + PB Kids! :rotfl:

Sorry I didn't have pictures but hope this helped a little.

Thanks that helped. I am so nervous buying furniture. I know once I buy it I am stuck with it. It seems nothing I like is out there. I have been buying IKEA for years and now interested in better.

I live near a Pottery Barn outlet and have seen a lot of furniture for sale there over the past few years, many pieces which have been pretty banged up. I have to say that I am not impressed by their wooden painted furniture. It seems to be damaged pretty easily and underneath the paint, the wood is not a high quality. I would never use this type of furniture in a child's room. I don't think it would hold up well where it got a lot of use.

I don't know how well made their upholstered furniture is.

Their accessories, such as lamps, candlesticks, etc. are nice and seem to be well made.

My aunt has a PB dining table and about 6 chairs and they are seriously banged up after only a year and a half! But she does have lots of visitors and holds tons of parties with lots of kids/family coming over.... They get scuffed and scratched through a little bit too easy. She also has a coffee table with a lighter shade and that has a couple deep groves on top from candle holders or toys being moved along the table but you can't really tell unless she points them out or if sunlight hits it. She has a bed too and that actually looks great still after a few years. Its not the wood type but the metal type. It looks kinda like this one and is very pretty http://www.potterybarn.com/products/whitney-bed/?pkey=cmetal-beds-headboards

Now the lamps and other things along those lines are great!

We have some Pottery Barn Kids furniture for our son's bedroom and I believe it is very nice quality. Strong crib, strong dresser/changing table. Better quality that what I was seeing elsewhere. We purchased in 2007, so perhaps it's different now? Also, sometimes outlet stores do carry different quality stuff, just FWIF.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "high quality" is. I think that you are going to get some nicks in most wood furniture depending on how it is used. That's one of the reasons I won't give up my very (VERY) old bedroom furniture and kitchen table until after my children are old enough to not destroy it.

There's always a trade off too, between money and quality. Only you can decide what the best value is for you because you know your budget.
