Does anyone live close to a PB Outlet? Or has anyone been to them?

We are moving to a new hosue and I'm loving some of the things in the PB Catalog. I love to shop at outlet malls, and will drive 3 hours to the Ozarks just to shop for the day. We're about 4 hours from the closest PB outlet-- is it worth a trip? What kinds of things do they carry, and how are the prices?

TIA, my fellow shop-a-holics!

we've got PB near us.

but what I really like right now is the PB teen stuff. it's a spearate line, you can't get it in our PB stores. my kids love the look.

There is a PB outlet in Gaffney, SC, about an hour from here. In my experience, it is really hit or miss. They do have some good deals on furniture, but sometimes the markdowns still do not make them reasonable in my opinion. I've had better luck there with toys, kids accessories, glasswear and the like. The one in Gaffney carries alot of furniture, much of it damaged in some way. I haven't been in a while though, at least a year. I don't know that I would drive 4 hours unless there was somewhere else I wanted to visit nearby. But then again, I'm not a real shoppaholic. I'm too cheap! Gotta save that money for the next Disney trip! :)

I've been to one, they had more or less a little of everything from the catalogue, furniture, rugs, home decor....

If I remember correctly the prices were pretty good, but we were more or less just browsing.

Hmm, maybe I could talk DH into a trip to Hilton Head using pts, and he could golf and I could shop. He'll probably be suspicious about why I haven't wanted to go to HH yet and all of the sudden do!

How far from HH to Gafney?

BriarRose, yes, isn't that silly? We have PB and PBKids here, but they are two seperate stores in two seperate malls! It is hard to keep up with all the different PB places! (reg cataolg is different than bed and bath catalog is different than online is different than B&Mstore, is different than PBKids is different than PBTeen, etc.)

Anyone know about the Memphis outlet? That's closest for me.

We have a Williams-Sonoma outlet which carries Pottery Barn stuff - I think they're the same parent company.

We do?! Where is it? You're talking outlet, right? I, too, love the PB stuff and I've bought DD16 lots of stuff from the PBTeen catalog.
Tink, is it near the outlets in Clinton or Westbrook?

I have been to the PB outlet many times... there is one in San Marcos, TX. Um, I've never bought anything more than candles or grilling stuff... Its hit and miss, like any outlet. I am sure deals are to be had, depending upon what you want. When we buy furniture again, I will look and see if there is anything we want there if I get a chance... but I dont make a special trip just for that store.

Most of the big items are damaged, minor though. They usually have a hodge podge of various pieces of furniture, paintings, and mirrors. Bunches of rugs, sheets, blankets, etc. Then little stuff like candles, accessories, etc. Some baby stuff, as well.

bumping this up to see if the evening DISers know about PB Outlet stores!

I live in Memphis and we do have both a Williams-Sonoma and a Pottery Barn outlet store here. They're VERY popular--always busy! Over the years, they've moved from being truly warehouse outlets to more of a retail store look. We've bought many, many things from there and the prices can't be beat at times. They have occasional sales when all tables will be like $100 or something. Fabulous!! Our old house was all hardwood so every room had an 8x 10 Pottery Barn area rug, and I think we paid $250 max for the most expensive. You can run across some amazing deals there. Other things are cheapER than the catalog, but not truly CHEAP if ya know what I mean! Still, it's always the first place I look for home furnishings/decor!

From HH it is probably 4.5 hours. We are located 30 minutes from Gaffney. It really is a game of hit or miss but if you like something get it cause it will be gone in two or three days! Also, if there are several of the same item you are looking at check the price on all of them. I bought a chair for dd's room a few months back and the stickers on three identical chairs varied in price from $39.99 to $89.99.

I have been to the outlet in Jeffersonville Ohio several times, I an a PB Junkie. Anyway they have awesome deals but they always have the best clearance prices through the week, not on weekends and when they bring stuff marked down out from the back rooms it goes fast so you have to be there when the doors open. Also have been to the one in Memphis but they don't seem to mark things down as much as the one in Ohio,

I used to go to the PB outlet in Leesburg, VA all the time!! It's really great. It very hit or miss...nothing is carried as a regular item like some "outlet" stores do these days. It is truly an outlet...leftovers, returns, and damaged goods. They used to carry nearly everything, but right before we moved, they changed the name to the PB Furniture Outlet, so about 90% of what they have is furniture. Some of it is damaged, and some of it is first-quality that was returned for some reason. If it's been unwrapped, they don't resell it as new through their stores or catalog--they put it at the outlet.

Prices: Straight from the manager, the most they will price an item is 30% off of the catalog price. So if you want a table that's $100 in the catalog, the most the outlet will charge is$70; it'll be less if it's damaged or if it's been there awhile.

Ours got a truck in Monday through Thursday mornings, and usually had it unloaded by lunch so you could call and ask if you are looking for a particular piece. However, they don't hold items or release prices over the phone, so you'd still have to make the trip....

It is owned by the same company as Williams-Sonoma, and Leesburg has those 2 outlets side by side. They also own another popular catalog/store....hold everything I believe it is.....their stuff is in the WS outlet sometimes....

Is it worth the trip? You sound like a shopper like me, so I'd say yes. I've always had pretty good luck at our outlet....got all my kids' bedding there, some drawer pulls, curtain rods, decorative pieces, etc. And I'm sure there are other outlets around to shop at :)

Thought I'd add that the supposed best day at the Memphis outlet is late Wednesdays after they get their truck. The actualy shipping warehouse for most Pottery Barn stuff is in Memphis, so the outlet get lots of great things...

I got the BEST DEAL at a PB outlet in January.

DH was making a bed for our DD. It was a pretty elaborate thing. I had seen a quilt in the PB Kids catalog that I loved but there was no way I was going to pay that much for it, especially since I needed to get 2 of them (he made her a bunk bed). We went to the outlet mall in San Marcos, TX and just on a whim I stopped in to see if they MIGHT have the quilts. Well they did, and they were 70% off of retail. Now THAT was a price I was willing to pay! :thewave:

And according to Vern from Trading Spaces, the outlets are the best places to get stuff.

Thanks everyone for all the great info! It defenitely sounds like I need to get me to a PB Outlet!

One more question-- If I go to the outlet and find something too big for my car, will they ship it for me? (for a charge, of course)

Thanks again everyone! Any more good bargain stories, please share!

Oh man....none are even within 2,000 miles of me! Pottery Barn only recently has come to Oregon...well, within the last 5-6 years, and all two of them are on the other side of Portland. IF I have another baby and IF we have lots of $$, I would love to get some PB baby stuff! Too cute!
