Pots & pans in carry-on...

Strange question that I've researched on the Web quite a bit without a very satisfactory answer... Can I carry-on pots & pans? Nothing seems to prohibit this per the TSA, but it is pretty hefty & strange! Has anyone tried it or seen anyone do it? Surely it's not worse than people bringing TVs and such...

P.S. before anyone asks... I don't intend to cook in Florida! I'm getting new expensive Stainless pieces to replace my old stuff, and it's so much cheaper in the US than Canada. And on some of the pieces, Amazon are cheaper, thus I would have them shipped to the resort. However, I don't want to entrust those pieces to baggage handlers, and some sizes would also be awkward to pack in a suitcase, but fit the carry-on size restriction.

As long as it fits and is within the weight restriction you can take it. I bring to WDW a plastic sealed case of water and get laughed at a lot by TSA.

I was on a flight a couple of weeks ago where a woman took a baking dish out of the overhead (empty, still had the label on it).

We took an entire tier of a wedding cake in a jumbo rubbermaid cake carrier (inside a carry on bag). No problems whatsoever. I think you'll be fine.

I took a Le crueset casserole in my hand baggage from Hong Kong to Australia once - and it was WAY heavy! All you need to do is check your airline carry on size and weight limit and make sure you are within it.

OP, that's fine! I take a knife (with a plastic cover, but still sharp!) and various cooking items in my checked luggage all the time. It's always gone through with a note from TSA, but it's never been denied.

OP wants to carry on, not check.

A couple of things... it's not prohibited... that does not mean the TSA agent won't make up "rule of the day" and decide it is. But probably not.

However, expect that it will arouse thier curisoity and they will want to "examine" it so don't race to the security line late!

Did you look into taxes?
I have no idea if there are restrictions between the US and Canada but if there are you could be facing a big bill.
So just a warning.

Thanks, you guys are quite reassuring! The Le Creuset story is very good. Should help finish convince DH that it's OK. I sense a big $$$ Amazon order coming this week-end...

I was already pretty sure it would raise a big flag on the XRay at security, because of the thick metal, so I won't get to the airport too tight. Not that I ever do, really, I tend to exaggerate on the other side...

For the poster who worried about taxes, we are allowed quite a bit in exmption when we leave the country 7 days, and even if I do pay taxes (which I sometimes do on short shopping trips), it's still a huge saving.
