Can anyone tell me what type of pots and pans are in the villas? Are they non-stick or are they stainless steel? The reason I ask is that DD was recently diagnosed with celiac and I'm trying to figure out if we should get an OL and keep some cheap pots and pans down there, or will we be able to use the pots and pans that are provided?

The ones we had a couple weeks ago in our Treehouse Villa were nonstick. However, I seem to recall having others during past visits that were not nonstick.

I doubt Disney goes to any great length to insure consistency in this area. They probably keep a healthy supply on hand for replacements as individual wear-and-tear dictates, and order in bulk when that supply needs to be replenished.

If you have specific needs I would suggest purchasing your own. No way of knowing what Disney will be using in the villas in a month, a year or a decade.

We are headed to OKW with DS and DIL. She has celiac disease. What do we need to watch for with cooking utensils and pots and pans? I thought it was just food she couldn't have. Thanks.

Well, DD is newly diagnosed, so we've been doing research. One thing that is of major concern for people with celiac is cross-contamination. Cross-contamination occurs when a kitchen item has been used on food that contains gluten. For stainless steel, it is not a problem provided everything is run through a dishwasher, however for porous materials (plastic, wood, and Teflon) even washing does not remove all of the gluten residue and can make a person with Celiac ill. The non-stick pots and pans are only an issue if they are scratched, however most do get scratched over time. Again, I am certainly no expert on this (yet!) so you may want to do more research.

Also, gluten can be found in non-food items such as shampoos and soaps, so this could also be a problem at WDW.
