Potentially stupid question...

I know this will probably stupid, but its been bugging me for awhile now.

On Space Mountain, can you put your hands up? I ask because at least from what I can tell while riding, the ride seems very condensed and at certain points it looks like other parts of the track are RIGHT above your head.

I know its a dumb question, just need some confirmation from someone who has put his/her hands up before and still has all 10 fingers.

Thanks.
Hi,
I would imagine you can, otherwise disney would have dozens of lawsuits from people with broken fingers or wrist and arms. However i have been on space mountain dozens of time myself and never actually done it myself.

I've put my hands up. I must admit because of the high speed I sometimes feel like my arms are going to hit the track. I don't think I've seen a sign to keep your arms in the car.

I actually thought it was a great question!!! :thumbsup2

Don't know the answer though!! :confused3 I agree, I always 'feel' like I'd be losing a body part for sure so I've never really done it!!! :teeth:

It was designed to look and feel very closed in. It help makes you feel like you're going much faster than you really are.

Feel free to stick your hands up--there's no danger :)

Not a stupid question...I've wondered myself. I've even told my 9 year old to put his arms down, because you just can't tell. I know in my heart that Disney wouldn't make it so that you would touch anything, but it looks so close.

You can put your arms up, I always do. I just realized on my last trip that I can actually touch the ceiling in the light tunnel.

I think I read somewhere that the fastest it goes is around 25 miles per hour. It just seems fast because you are in the dark.

:confused3

I'm 6'2 and have a pretty long wingspan. I raise my arms and have never hit or touched anything.

Your question has alot of potential. You can lift your arms, but the ride is jerky so they'll probably come down soon after.

Good question. My kids wanted to do it but because it's in the dark I warned them to please hold on. They get me so nervous when they want to let go.

My grandchildren hold their hands up on all of the roller coaster rides....while I hold on until my knuckles are white...no matter how many times I ride. :teeth:

Wow, I don't think I could imagine putting my arms up on Space Mountain. The first time I rode in the front of the car last trip, seeing everything flying past my head just creeped me right out. The next time I was in the front it was a little better but I still don't think I could imagine lifting my hand higher then my head, maybe I'm just crazy though :bitelip:

My son holds his high every time...and he has pretty long arms!!!
All of his fingers are still attached... :teeth:

I put my arms up in June. .. Typing with your tounge is not so bad.

Just Kidding. I am sure the law requires nothing within a minimal range of probably 4 feet. At 4 feet the person would have to be around 8 foot 6 inches. I do not see someone that tall getting in those tiny cars because at 6'4" I have almost no leg room..

I realized I could do that acouple years ago. Its the only time I put my hands up because I know I can touch something lol.

You know I think that's a great question, I never put my hands up. Everytime I ride it, I think ..what happens if that person in front of me is too tall. :scared1: .I always get visions of the headless horseman. :rotfl:

Similar to the raising of arms dealie...I always duck when I'm on SM. I'm all of 5 foot one-and-a-half (hey, that half inch is important ;) ) so no real danger of hitting something...I'm guessing just an involuntary action. But I do it without fail, every time :teeth:

It is not a stupid question, it does look very close in some places!! You can put your hands up, though. My 6'2" DH does. (He can also touch the top of the light tunnel) I used to when I was a kid, now it seems so rough, I need to brace myself. I guess I'm getting old. :sad2:
