Potentially creepy question

Some friends and I were talking the other night, and I swear this question came up quite naturally, and not in any morbid way. But we were wondering if anyone had ever tried to scatter someone's ashes at Disneyworld. I'm pretty certain of two things: 1, it's absolutely not allowed and 2, someone's tried to do it.
I would love to know if anyone has an answer to this question. And please believe me, I don't want to offend anyone with this post.
Thanks!

I agree that there's no way they would say yes to that. I would bet that some have done it, and that if you were subtle enough (i.e. just a small amount of ashes) no one would ever know. ;)

I don't know...but most of the people that I know have spread ashes illegally. My friend and her family took her mother to her favorite golf course and spread a little ashes at each hole. I've told my mother I will put a little of her ashes by the slot machines in Reno. I've told my husband to spread my ashes around Disney World. I'm sure someone has done it.

My mom has said for years this is what she wants done. I researched it and yes -- officially it's not allowed. That said, unless you make a big spectacle of it they probably won't even notice. My plan is to divide up the ashes into small bags and quietly leave a little bit in several places around WDW.

There is always the rumor about the woman who spread her son's ashes in the Haunted Mansion (Google Haunted Mansion ashes, you'll find lots of versions). It has the ring of an urban legand.

Whoa, next time I see a handful of schmutz on the ground outside the Castle, I'll be more careful not to kick it away!

To me, this is a very serious topic. I am going to reveal my plans.

I already have plans to have my ashes dumped in the water in front of Cinderella's Castle. It's in my will. It doesn't matter if Disney allows this or not. My wife has specific instructions to sneak in my ashes in her purse and discreetly lean over the rail and drop my ashes. Oh, it will be done.

I can't believe I'm revealing my secret, but we're all family here on the disboard. If you love Disney, then you are family to me!

And that's my story....

:scared1:

Just think...every time my family and their famiy and so on watches the fireworks over the Castle....they'll be thinking of me.

Oh, dear...my husband actually joked about doing this. Good to see he's not alone!

I believe there was a thread on the Community board a while ago with lots of people saying they have either already done this or have seen it done.

Maybe it's just me (and I watch too much TV and read too many books) - but I can just see me doing this and Disney security surrounding me! In this day and age of terrorist acts, I would imagine people discretely dropping powder substances into the water at a theme park would draw attention for security reasons.

I recognize and appreciate the intent and emotional reasons for wanting to do this, but if I saw someone doing this - and hadn't read this posting, I probably would be suspicious of them as I wouldn't have even thought of the idea of doing this.

Just my 2 cents. :-)

My God, what a money maker for Disney! They could charge for having your ashes spread over the world showcase lagoon! They could make a whole event out of it. They could cover one of the friendship boats in black bunting {the boat could hold all the mourners,} who would, of course, have to purchase a park ticket to get in, and they could offer hotel packages to all of the attendees. Who would notice a few extra ashes in the lagoon, since they dump a load of pyrotechnics debris in it every night! hey Eisner, you listening? Do you hear a big CHA CHING?! :boat: :teeth: :faint:

I have joked about the same thing, however I am not into cremation(just something about fire and incinerators). I want to donate my body to science so others can learn. My husband, however does want to be cremated. I am trying to talk him into doing the same as me.... boy, would that be a lesson in what partying while you are young will do to a body!;)

It has happened in the Haunted Mansion at least once, and the ride was closed immediately and remained closed while the ashes were cleaned up. Disney considers a person's ashes to pose a health risk and, if you were caught doing this, you would be arrested. It's not a joke.

Umm, you DO know that after your remains have been tested and dissected that they will be cremated, right? And the ashes returned to your family? Sometimes it can take a few years but it will happen.

I love that idea!! Disney can offer this service of dumping the ashes of a loved one in front of the Castle. They can offer special packages for the family members and turn it into a special event. :jumping4: :jumping4: :jumping4:

Come on Disney....start listening. This is a great idea!! This really is about making dreams come true.

As for dumping the ashes on your own, hey you and I know Disney can't stop it. How in the world do you prevent someone from dropping some ashes? My plan to dump my ashes has a back up plan which has another back up plan. It's flawless. As for the risk of getting caught, it is definitly worth it. I would do it in a heart beat.

What would you call this? Magical Scatterings?

Magical Scatterings is good, but how about revising the Leave a Legacy.
They already have the graveyard, just slide the ashes into the spot you purchased in that ugly statue.

Maybe then they could call it Leave a Leg-acy
