“He has the potential”. “She isn’t living up to her potential”. “They have the potential, if they would just use it”. We hear that all the time. What is this potential, a magic force that is within all of us? Well yes it is. We have within all of us the ability to do anything we desire. What makes one person achieve when those around them do not? Is it because the others didn’t have something, or the one that did achieve used what they all had but chose not to?

We are all pretty much equal in our assets. We are all born with the same number of arms and legs, the same number of muscles. Everything about each of us is basically the same. So what is it that makes some people excel and others seem to barely manage to make it through each day?

Everyone reading this has a computer they are looking at. You are right now sharing the thoughts of another. The computer you have has about the same capabilities as everyone else’s, or it has the same ‘potential’ as the others. What you do with that computer is different than what someone else does. I write, some people have a computer based home business, and others use theirs to keep organized. The list of uses for it are endless. It all depends on the person using it.

Your mind and body are like that computer in that they have about the same capabilities as everyone else. What you choose to do with those assets are what allows you to achieve your goals. You must make the decision that it’s going to be your way! You are the boss of your mind and body, you and you alone.

Most of my readers are adult athletes. You made that decision, and it was not an easy one, but you are seeing positive results. Is it time now to make some new decisions and become a better athlete? It will not be as hard as you think. Our bodies and minds are designed for growth. We learn by starting at the basics of a subject, building a foundation of knowledge, and gradually learning more complex concepts. Training our bodies is exactly the same. We teach our muscles to work, and slowly over time, steadily increase the work load we ask of it.

Next week, during the last half of your workouts, ask yourself this question, is this all I’ve got? If your answer is no then increase your effort just a little. The result will be that after you have rested you will be just a little stronger than if you had not made that increase. It really is that easy to tap into the magic force called potential.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for reading.

I do enjoy reading your insights, but I disagree with equal assets. I am hypersensitive as my son's girlfriend was born without a hand. Talk about potential. She is a great athlete. I am always amazed at what she can go. I think we need to use our God given assets, what ever they are, to the best potential each of us can. :)

And yes, we do need to do our best in whatever we set out to do.
