My BIL & his wife live in Qatar but are in the states right now.

They pronouce it "Cutter" as well. The people of Qatar are considered "Cuttery". They have lived there 8 years so we have always pronounced it as they do.
Can't say it surprises me- there's a lot of differences in the way people pronounce things that are unfamiliar.

Certainly didn't mean to post it incorrectly. It was an honest mistake- and now there's people up your butt like you're uneducated or intentionally misled people. No, it's a mistake. I'm sorry. One of the things I love about the DIS....

Wow, I feel so much better now! Hopefully he is already out of Qatar, and will make it home when he is supposed to tonight!

More and more I think the 24-hour instant reporing news media is out to scare us, rather than inform us. Pass along any rumor that sounds scary, without any confrimation. Now we hear:

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - A man aboard a Qatari Airways flight fought with flight attendants Thursday, prompting the pilot to return to Amman, but the incident was not a hijacking attempt, a government spokesman said.

Initial reports from airport security officials and a Qatari Airlines spokesman said the man, identified as an Eritrean, tried to force his way into the cockpit carrying a canister that the officials said contained a liquid.

But Jordanian government spokesman Nasser Judeh told The Associated Press that it "was a quarrel and not a hijacking attempt" and that the liquid was medicine.

The man had tried to go to a bathroom 10 minutes after the flight took off from Amman for the Qatari capital, Doha, Judeh said.

When the attendants told the passenger he could not leave his seat yet, he pushed an attendant to the ground before others restrained him, Judeh said. The pilot returned the plane to Amman, where the man was detained.

Airport security officials confirmed the story, saying the man started screaming that he wanted to speak to the pilot to complain about the flight attendants for stopping him.

Well thank goodness it wasn't a hijacking attempt. Notice the title of the topic was Potential hijacking...

While I agree with sensationalized media, little can be said or done about "breaking news" these days becuase it's often reported before full detail is available. It took quite awhile to get anything on it one way or the other. I know military wives who have found out their significant others were hurt overseas becuase live media feeds came in before anything else it. They'd sit ad wait for the phone to ring to hear officially... It's a blessing and a curse.

Seems the OP was convinced enough to go back and edit her posts to correct her mistake.

Read it today in the newspaper: "War is just God's way of teaching Americans geography."

To that, I guess we can add "terrorist attacks."
