POTC: what's with the red head?

I've been reading about people on Pirates of the Caribbean ride shouting out "we want the redhead". What does this mean??

I think it refers to the fact that in that scene of POTC ride, there is a fancily-dressed redhead lady figure in the same area as the pirates who are shouting that.

In the POTC ride, there is a scene where the pirates are "auctioning" off women. The current woman up for "auction" is pleasantly plump to say the least. The next woman in line is this stunning red head in a red dress. She looks like an "experienced" woman if you get my drift. The pirates who are "purchasing" the women are eager to move on to the next woman up for "auction" - thus the phrase "we want the red-head."

I thought they said "we wants..." instead of "we want..." I wonder if I misheard . I love that line myself (as I am a redhead) and looked forward to that part of the ride as a child. I do remember the pirates chasing the ladies and one plump lady chasing a pirate.

Favorite line of the ride. Celebrating 17 years on the 25th married to one. She never grows tired of me shouting it out unlike maybe some of our other shipmates.

Undoubtedly, the next thing the "politically correct police" will attack. I suspect that before long the phrase "we wants the redhead" will be replaced by the pirates yelling, "please, please, release those young ladies from the bonds of a male dominated society and give them the respect they so rightfully deserve". Of course, that will effectively take all the fun out of the ride but it is a small price to pay to not have anyone offended.

I remember the pirates chase scene but I saw it at DL not WDW. Anyone remember that and has that changed?

Another redhead here who just loves this part of the ride! POTC is my DH's favorite ride, and every time we get to this scene, he's one of the ones who shouts out, "We wants the redhead!" along with the pirates. But instead of aiming the comment at the redhead in the scene, he aims it at me. Our kids get such a kick out of it every time, and so do I!

Yes, I remember when the pirates were chasing the lassies, with one rather plump young lady chasing behind the pirates. Ah, for the good old days, when we could enjoy some good fun without people taking it too seriously and being offended...

Aisling, the redhead scene was still intact when we were there in June. Hopefully it'll still be there when you get there, and for a good long time after that too.

The PC thing always cracked me up--it's inappropriate for pirates to be chasing women, but it's o.k. to be selling the women?

Who comes up with this stuff?

Personally, I'm more offended by the women being sold than by the pirates giving chase. Before it was changed, I always laughed at the last scene, where the chubby lady was chasing the pirate and giggling.

I say forget about the PC garbage and change the ride back the way it used to be.

I second that motion. I always loved the chase scene. But unfortunately being PC seems to undermine even the oldest of things.

I would love to see it go back to the way it was. It was so much funnier that way. Also to seeing the girl peeking out of the barrel with the pirate sitting next to it with her skirt. I noticed that was gone recently too.

Truth be told, I wouldn't mind seeing the DL version brought out here.



I admit it, I grew up on DL and still love its more intimate atmosphere. I love WDW, but there's nothing like the original.
