Maybe you can clear this up for me. If anyone read my earlier post to the evil morning riddle I have decided I am dumb as rock this morning and I figured I would flaunt it to everyone and see if anyone knows the answer to this.

In POTC, all of the pirates are cursed because they stole the gold. Therefore they cannot die. SOOOOOOOOooooooooo when William Turner gets tied to the canon and dumped into the sea, is he just down there wondering what he is going to do with himself and suddenly drowns when the curse is broken? Was he not cursed (unlikely)... would he rot? I dont know!!!!

My daughter and I watched it the other night and kept rewinding to hear dialogue so we could keep the whole story straight but we never could figure out what happened to poor Mr Turner. Maybe they did say and neither one of us got it.

Any help for the story line impaired would be greatly appreciated!

I wondered that myself the first time I saw it. There is a part tho where they were saying they threw Turner overboard because he didn't like what they did to Jack. So I'm thinking they did that before they went and got the gold. Remember, Jack told them ahead of time where the gold was and then they left him on the island. That would explain too why Jack wasn't cursed. He didn't become cursed until the end when he palmed a coin in the cave.
I believe that is how it went. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

They must have already had the Aztec Gold when they threw Bootstrap Bill over because he had already sent a piece of it to his young son, Will.

If he was cursed, they couldn't have killed him, right? So I guess he did just hang out on the bottom of the ocean for 10 years until the curse was lifted, then he drowned. Bummer. Kind of a break in the story line, I think.

I wonder if the sequel will address this? ;)

I understand two things on this... and the writers even went into a little during the commentary they had on the DVD. The thing they wanted to emphasize is that Bootstrap went *crushing* into the black oblivion of the sea. His body more or less would have exploded and there would be no chance of survival. The other thing I understood is that when this curse first took place it was a more gradual deal. Barbossa even said the more they spent, the more they realized they didn't enjoy things in life... food turned to ash and all that good stuff. I would guess for Jack though, it was immediate change since the curse was already full blown elsewhere. But like I said the writers emphasized that Bootstrap more or less was in a million little pieces so curse or not, there would be no way to "survive" that.

phorsenuf, he would have had and known about the gold because he did send the one piece of to his son and said the rest of the crew "all deserved to be cursed" That's when he got booted over the edge.

We wondered about the same thing. Since we know they are working on a sequel, I couldn't help wondering if BB got loose before the curse ended (he had plenty of time) and will appear in the next film? Maybe not, but it crossed my mind.

Just saw that Elaine and I cross posted. I haven't watched the extra features on our DVD, and I KNOW that she has. LOL! I am sure she knows what she is talking about.

Well...that's a BIG DUH on my part since the whole story started with that piece of gold! LOL
I don't get what someone else posted tho about the millions of pieces Will was in. If he was tied to a cannon how could he have been in pieces?

LOL, Melissa, what makes you say that :teeth:

phorsenuf, he was whole when he was tied to the cannon... to quote from the movie
The last we saw of ol’ Bill Turner , he was sinking to the crushing black oblivion of Davy Jones’ Locker. ‘Course it was only after that we learned we needed his blood to lift the curse.
The emphasis is on the *crushing black oblivion* he was crushed by the pressure of the sea.... therefore in a million little pieces. Make sense now?

Why did they did BB's blood to lift the curse? Was it because they needed a live pirate's blood?

Sure thing phorsenuf! I enjoyed this movie a lot and have watched it a few times ;) (okay tons)

Remember the bit that Barbossa said to Elizabeth while eating dinner, about needing to get back all 882 pieces and the blood repaid? For everyone who gave the gold away, they had to use their blood on the coin as it was returned to the chest to lift the curse. Well Bill Turner did give the coin away to his son... so they needed his blood to lift it since he gave away that specific coin. Like in the end, Jack slit his hand and put his blood on the coin before he tossed it to Will to drop in the chest. I hope that made sense :)
