POTC online Beta Test

Well, I still haven't recieved my beta key yet. It's been since about March or April since I signed up. Does anyone have any idea when this game is gonna release?

Not sure when the game will be released to the public. There are still a lot of bugs in the program though it does play well despite them. I think the Beta keys are random I forget how long ago I signed up maybe 3-4 months ago and I got my key in the last two weeks. I think it is all very random and I imagine that some will never get that elusive beta key. I never get drawn in raffles, never win at a scratch ticket, lottery, never win anything so when my name got chosen for this I was down right shocked and I felt like I really did win something!

Anyone know what happens to us Beta testers AFTER the Beta testing is done and the official full version is open to the public? I imagine that this will be a fee to play game with perhaps a free option account with limited game play (like Runescape) . Suppose us Beta testers will get any discount or anything on subscriptions for you know all our hard work?:cool2:

generally the fee is not waived, i am not sure how disney will go about it but what other games have done in the past is allow us to keep our beta character in the regular game play. which is always nice because when you are a level 30+ when everyone else is level 1-5 on opening day it makes the game alot easier!! also rumor has it that there will be a free mode that will have limited access. what i have heard is that the free version will have ads, and no access to pvp modes and a couple islands like kingshead will not be accessable. i know with the vmk beta testers all got a complete compliment of every beta item so i am sure disney will have some kind of thank you for us!!

...i know with the vmk beta testers all got a complete compliment of every beta item...
We did!!! Someone forgot to give me mine and the same holds for every VMK beta tester that I know.:confused3

Just to dispell this, this did not happen with VMK. If you bought it in beta you did get to keep it. If you didn't buy it, then you got nothing. I myself was not into the furniture in the beginning so I had very little beta items that were actually removed and of course most of what I had was rereleased. The really rare stuff was the higher cost items and we did not have much credit in the begining pay for the games was lower and banking credits was my focus. The only thing we were "given" as a thank you was a day 1 badge.

I too doubt this game will give a free pass to testers because I can tell that they are putting a lot into this and it is taking a lot to maintain it. They are developing this game to make money, unlike VMK which was developed more for marketing and to give them web presents as part of that strategy.

you know you could have tracked her right?
the ray of light shines over Cuba.
It's kind of like knowing where you parked your car, I was pretty sure I knew where she was but just could not find her - ray of light - thats like asking directions isn't it? LOL I have several times not been able to locate the item standing on the spot the light shined on so I was not really watching that.

I gave up playing last night early, so many dc's, hanging screens and lag! very buggy night.

Here's hoping tonight will be better :)

I'm Kate Proweagle on there if ya see me!

I sent an email to POTC about the fee when it goes public. They sent me this response :) Hope this clears some things up.

How can I board ships? I've been trying for a week or so now and I can't seem to figure it out. And when I shoot the ropes at the ships they don't actually stay attached to the ship. Am I just shooting them wrong?

Edit: Is anyone playing now?

from post # 340
to board a ship you have to make the final shot on a flag ship, the boats with the red and white for navy and gray and white for eitc flag above the name of the ship. if you get the last shot in you will see green circles flashing on the boat.

I had to try a few times last night before my friend and I were able to get it.

I am a Beta tester for POTC online, but I haven't been able to play since I got my key a few months ago. Is there a DIS group on there?

I'm still having trouble. Is anyone on who wouldn't mind if I join their crew? I'm working on getting some silk and taking down 6 Navy ships. I have yet to get a single one. :lmao:

Well, I guess my pirating days are almost over :sad1:

My only experience with pay for play games is my son's Runescape. He pays $5 a month for that. I complained to my husband when he bought the subscriptioin for him "$5 a month to play a game that is $60 a year!" me always a penny pincher. I can't imagine that I can now say "but dear I want to be a real pirate and it is only $10 a month just $120 a year!" It might be on par with other online games but gosh when you look at it as $120...

Well is was good while it lasted I guess...

Yeah I got the same email...

hmm...is it really worth it?

That was my thought... It's fun absolutely- but do I really want to spend $10 a month on it $120 a year on it, I am just not sure. That is a meal for 7 at WDW sure then it is all paid at once then (the meal) but when I save to go to WDW I have to rationalize if that $120 is spent on lodging, a meal or playing a game... If it was $5 a month like my son's subscription I might consider it, might. I mean I knew it was going to be a pay for service so I am not surprised but on the other hand there will be some of us Beta testers who LOVE the game and won't want to stop playing the unlimited version but I really think there will be more that drop out, they will pick up some other customers but I am sure that there are many like me going $10 a month to play a game, hmmmm.....maybe not worth it. Obviously, with the interest in online gaming these days it is a smart move for Disney to have their own But it has to be affordable and I am just not sure it is when put into relation to other things the cash could go towards.

I also received the same email and after vmk closted last night ...Yep...I pre-ordered...woot!

From my understanding there will be a free and also an unlimited version available

Well Chedstro (Dis) / Coriander (VMK) signed up yesterday for the Founders POTC Online package. So guess she / we will be playing it after it goes public (still says sometime this fall). The blurb says that paying members will get some advanced weapons and skills, be able to captain bigger and better ships, create and lead their own pirate guild, embark on expanded quests, engage in expanded pirate vs. pirate combat, and receive an exclusive crew kit in the mail.

Just another thought for this thread. If everybody could put their main DIS~~~main VMK~~~PotC titles on their posts we might be able to recognize others in game. This is prompted by the fact that I hear I helped out another Dis/VMK friend last night and did not know it at the time. To start it off:

Chedstro~~~Coriander~~~lemongrass, lemonpepper, lemondrop, and lemoncake.
(BobRichmond~~~CL_OutOfMyMind are currently playing these characters.)

I'm still debating with myself about singing up and spending my hard earned my to play a game..

a game that I love.

From what I read it seems that there are only a couple of things a beta tester that does not sign up as a founder (before the game goes public I think) will not get.

First and maybe most important it sounds like you will have to start all over with a new character. Those of us that had characters in beta phase 1 knows what that feels like, as we lost our characters (and their titles) when beta phase 2 started.

Lastly they say you will get a cloth game map sent to you. I suspect this is the same map that you see in the game ("M"), but you will not have to scroll to see it all.
