I was reading a thread on the Strategies Board and was wondering how many people would take or have taken there 2 yo on POTC. Our DD is turning 2 around the time of our trip and I was wondering what other DISers have experienced with this. I personally love the ride! Our DD isn't usually scared by nature, but this will be her first time at WDW. I suppose that we could try the line and if she is acting scared, we could take turns. We are going to be going with another couple and their DS 18 months & I don't know if they would want to take him on. Do they to baby swap on this ride?

I think it depends on what your child is like. We took DS's on it when they were 4 and they were scared, mainly because of the dark at the beginning of the ride. As the ride went on they calmed down, but that initial darkness and the small drop got them off to a bad start.

My 2.5 yr old dd was a little hesitant at first, so I explained the ride and reassured her about the drop. We played a game counting the animals while we rode....there's quite a few. And she really enjoyed it and wanted to ride several more times. I'm not sure if she even realized there were any pirates. :)

I wouldn't hesitate to take my fearless 15 mo DD on POTC, but waited to take my timid, 3 yo DS. I finally took him on it a week and a half ago. The only issue for him was the darkness at the beginning, but otherwise, he was fine.

We just got back for WDW and we took our 2 1/2 year old son on it. The drop didn't bother him. He just didn't like the dark. So we turned his Buzz Lightyear toy on and he was fine. He loves guns and swords so he really enjoyed the ride.

We took our dd on it about a week before she turned 2. She didn't seem to care anything about it. She just sat there and looked bored. What she didn't like were all of the 3d shows. We made the mistake of taking her into A Bug's Life and she was so scared. I have never seen her get scared at anything before so I didn't think it would bother her. After that we tried Philharmagic and that scared her as well. I thought she would like it but when the music got loud and fast she freaked. Fantasmic scared her also. She didn't like the Villans. After the trying those 2 3d shows we try any others. Every other ride in the park she had no problem with. She even liked Snow White. princess:

DD who is 19 months has been on POTC a number of times at different ages. We are going again on Friday to WDW and I am sure we will take in this ride.

Our DD went on POTC at 14 months and sat there wide-eyed as can be but didn't seem to mind it. She went on again at age 2 and hated it! She didn't like the dark or the gunshot sounds at the beginning. She has refused to even go near the ride on her last three trips at ages 2 1/2, 3 & 3 1/2.

I would see how your DD does on other rides if she seems not to like anything dark oriented maybe you should bypass POTC and just the adults take turns.

Most children are quite mesmorized by the attractions and have not problems whatsoever. Our youngest though was a chicken at that age. She hated any loud noises or disturbances. That didn't stop us and we took her on most of the rides. She never enjoyed one of them because she spent the entire time curled up in a ball with her hands covering her ears. Of course we wouldn't have taken her if she was absolutely terrified, but over the years we acknowledged, but did not fixate on her "fears", and now at 5 she is more well-adjusted than I could have ever expected. And by having her deal with her phobias she is more confident and proud of herself. She is actually looking forward to watching Wishes this weekend!

My daughter loved Pirates of the Caribbean. She was quite scared by Snow White, Peter Pan, and even the Winnie the Pooh ride however. To each child his or her own I guess.

I've taken a couple of two-year-olds on POTC at various times, and they have always loved it. This includes the one that was horrified by Snow White and Pooh (it was dark). I wouldn't worry too much.
