POTC 4 Movie Premiere at DL in May - Probably May 14

Editor's Note 1/28: The Disney Studios have committed to holding the splashy Pirates 4 movie premiere at Disneyland, much to the chagrin of some folks out in Florida who were trying to nab it. But Disneyland has proven they know how to stage these big events, and the Hollywood crowd showed no interest in flying out to the swamp when they could just limo down the I-5 again. As you can imagine, the staging of the premiere before the film's wide release date of May 20th is part of the reason why the exact opening dates in May for Mermaid, Star Tours and Soundsational have not yet been nailed down. Based on what happened for the POTC 2 and POTC 3 movie premieres, this will mean a few things for May visitors. All speculation at this point by yours truly.

• The premiere at DL will likely happen on the Saturday preceding the May 20 release. That would be May 14, 2011.
• This will involve major disruption to New Orleans Square on May 14 and likely in the days preceding May 14 to assemble a seating structure for the movie
• The movie would show on a screen on Tom Sawyer Island
• There will be no Fantasmic on May 14 - and probably not for a few days before that either.
• Main Street will be transformed into a red carpet area for celebrities - and significantly disrupt regular visitors. But will allow you to see Jack Sparrow - errr, Captain Jack Sparrow aka Johnny Depp. Plus probably Penelope Cruz and other A-List celebs and lots of B-list celebs too
• The DL park hours will likely change that day - such as DL could open for regular hours as early as 6:30AM and close early - by 5PM possibly (see May 2007 schedule)
• It would mean the cancellation of Magic Morning that day or possibly they will move it to Friday May 13 (uh oh, Friday the 13th )
• If you have big bucks you might be able to score tickets for the movie premiere on May 14. For POTC 3 they went for $1500 a ticket - which was donated to Charity by Disney I understand.

Omg, my CM friends are already talking about camping out for this, literally waiting outside DL, in line, for as long as we can before they let us in (if they don't work, that is). I would love to do it, but I already know I'm going to be in the middle of finals, and if it were undergrad, I'd totally blow them off for a bit, but not law school, even for Johnny Depp. (I know, shame shame!)

I think I'll just stick with the midnight showing, unless my friends can maneuver a way for me to get one minute with Johnny (like they have that kind of power, lol). That's all I need, lol, then my top three will be complete. I've got Antonio Banderas (Johnny Rockets after Price is Right taping), Alan Rickman (we were in the same theatre in London, although I didn't know it at the time, but since that's as close as I will probably get, that works), and Johnny Depp (who I missed by 45 minutes when they were filming POTC 3 in Redondo Beach).


Ah well. If I'm meant to meet JD, fate will find some way to make it work. For the other two, I didn't seek them out, so maybe...

Thank you for this information. We were just in the process of making reservations for the 11th to the 15th. Ugh.

This would mean we would most likely not see Fantasia etc.

My question now is - how will this affect CA? Will it be busy or will people stay away?

You are welcome but I would underscore that the May 14th thing is not information...more like informed speculation.

Even so, I think you are making a good move.

OMG!!! I would so so so love to go to this!!!!!! When they were filming here in Hawaii last year we went down many of nights to watch the filming and every night Johnny would do a special walk through for the fans. He was amazing!!!! He especially reached out to the kids, he really seemed to like the kids, was so cute, one night there was this little girl standing behind some adults and she was trying to get in to see Johnny, he noticed her and asked the adults to move and gave her an autograph. So nice! I got to hold his hands a couple different nights and once he said "Thanks for coming, thanks for the support, I love you love" I'll never forget that voice nor those eyes, it was like I was the only one there, ahhhhh. DH was cracking up, everynight right after dinner I was out the door to the filming, thank goodness he was supportive and took care of DD so we could go I want to go to the premier!!! I can't wait to see all of your pictures for those who attend.

the 14th will be our second day in the parks!!! I don't know if I should be or really . It is first visit for DH sister and her family. I think we might spend as much time as we can in DCA. I don't know. This could turn out to be a great thing or really, really bad.

This is my turning point also...a really good thing or really bad thing. Anybody have any thoughts? If this is my "one" trip to Disneyland should I plan a trip when I know that I will not see Fantasmic...

Argh. Usually love mid to late May for the lack of crowds.
