Potatoes are out, Noodles are in at 'Ohana now

What is this I see?
Here comes my cousin bringing
Skewered chunks of Spam.

Nice job on the Spam haiku. I'm glad you didn't use some of the yuckier Spam haikus. :)

Eagerly waiting...
Bring forth from the fire pit gods!
Tasty Spam goodness.

Eh, not my best haiku, but worth a shot.

Wontons are nice to have back. I remember being told by CM's that the shrimp wontons left because of the danger of shellfish allergies. Shrimp were hidden, if CM's forgot to ask or warn people about the shrimp in them...could have been bad I guess. Now that they are pork, that solves any problems there.

Not for me - I am allergic to pork. I was going to give it a try but I can't eat the wontons or the sausage - so I guess I will have to find another meal somewhere. There are so many good restaurnats I am sure it won't be a problem.

I am so happy to hear that the potatoes are gone / leaving. For me they did not match the theme or compliment the rest of the food that well and I thought they were just okay. I am not a bread pudding fan and this was okay but I loved the less filling and tart / sweet fresh taste of the pineapple. All that being said, I have been going to 'Ohana since 1996 and they have changed many things on the menu, some were good, some were not so good but nothing was ever BAD and they would have to do a lot of bad things to get me to not go.

The sausage is gone now I believe, and has been replaced with shrimp.

I loved the potatoes and the bread pudding! My main problem with the change is that I really hate pineapple and now that it is in the pasta dish and that is what the dessert is I may go back but I feel I will be disappointed. I wish they would at least leave the bread pudding. I don't see why they need to change that to pineapple? Like someone else said, anyone can get pineapple anytime they want.

First off I want to say that I have never had dinner at Ohana's. I really don't care what they changed really. I just wanted to share this.

"The early Hawaiian diet was diverse, and may have included as many as 130 different types of seafood and 230 types of sweet potatoes"

That came from Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuisine_of_Hawaii

I can tell you when I went to Hawaii, they did serve a sweet potato at "authentic" meals. It was purple, and very yummy.

Sweet potatoes are not what was served at O'hana.

Nope it wasn't...they were warm, cheesey goodness :sad2: With Maui onions...that's what made it polynesian!

Wonder if the "purple" potatoes were taro? Isn't taro purple in color and a tuber? Maybe that's what they meant by the sweet potatoes...

Well I for one am so glad to not have to even look at those potatoes.Blech I hated them and am so happy they are out and the noodles are in, anything will be better than those potatoes.

The potatoes were our favourite part of the meal here. I don't really like the sound of pineapple in noodles. I like noodles but not cooked pineapple. But by the time I get there again (2010) it will probably have changed.

I realize that the potato was not a sweet potato. I was just trying to say that Ohana could serve a potato (granted it would be a sweet potato) and it still be a polynesian dish.

It wasn't taro. They were actual potatoes. Taro, well Poi which is made of taro, is rather bland.

When we were in Hawaii we never had a sweet potato and the poi was gross. They did have taro chips and they were pretty good. Just be glad 'Ohana isn't serving poi! :scared:

For all of you that loved the potatoes make the recipe found here on this site...it is to die for!

Oh boy I am excited to try the new changes! We ate there in May 2007 and loved it. I do agree that lo mein sounds like it "fits" better. Either way, I am sure I will leave full.:goodvibes
