Posts re: Popeye being closed are WRONG!!!

PolkaDot:
MrsMud- will you be there Oct.6-9? Are you staying onsite? How old are your kids? We will be at the HRH. I will have 2 of my girls with me ages 7 and 4. The baby will stay with Grandma. Maybe we will see you there. Your time clock matches mine. Hope they reopen some rides by then!!!
Yes, we will be in Orlando Oct. 4-12. So far I am planning on US and IOA on the 6th and 7th. We are staying offsite, as this is a real combination trip including US, SW and WDW. My two girls are 5 and 7, almost the same as yours. ;)

I have another small issue. While we are still excited to go, mainly because we already paid for the airfare, tickets etc, when I discussed the Popeye ride with the guest service lady, she told me that if I wanted water rides, I should go to Wet-n-Wild. I am a little offended at that comment. I do understand about not going in September, but some of us do not have a choice when our vacation is. We try to plan around our convenience and not the park. If there are less rides available, they should charge us less.

Don't be offended by GS' suggestion, Wet N' Wild is very close and has alot to offer. If you decide that is something that you are interested in, you can purchase a 4 park Flex Ticket which would be good for Wet N' Wild, Seaworld, US & IOA. :) Definitely a great deal if you plan on going to all of those.

Yes, there will be rides closed, mostly because of Halloween Horror Nights. From what I've heard, there will be 6 Haunted Houses this year.

Like someone said before this post, try not to focus on what is closed and focus on what is open. You'll have a great time! Weather is still great in September!

Everytime I look at this thread, something else is closed or closing!!!! Scary....but look folks, I know alot of US are disappointed, but I have to say life is too short. Make the best of the situation and have a good time. You will, I know it. Also, I know that sometimes when we are upset we take out our frustrations on people. Keep in mind that guest services is just doing their job and they do not make these "decisions" so try not to be too hard on them.

I think some of you are misunderstanding our concerns. We all love the parks, otherwise we wouldn't be spending the money every year to visit them. We just would like the opportunity to voice our opinions so that they are able to continue to make Universal a better place. If the management only hears the good things, which we all continue to state in our posts, they will not know how to improve. I for one am very much looking forward to our trip. Because I have a few concerns, it doesn't mean that I hate the park. I just wish that we did not have to continually state that fact.
As for guest services, I am not mad at them. I would like to see management provide improved training so that when we, the paying customers, call with questions, we are provided accurate answers. I am dealing with a small child that isn't yet as excited about this trip as I am. I have tried to get her excited by explaining all the fun things we will be doing. Now, I have to go back to her and refocus her attention because some of those fun things will not be available. If I had been told the correct information, I could have avoided this. If it was not for the people on this board, I would not know what was open or closed. Again, I don't believe anyone is bashing Universal. We all love the place, but reserve the right to try and make it even better.

My concern with the negative posts is that it will cause other people not to go and that is exactly the opposite of what we want to do to get the attendance up and more rides going.

Well said, I agree. As disappointing as some of the closures sound, I will make the best of our time. The way I see it is a bad day at Universal (not that it would be bad in anyway) is better than a good day at the office!!! LOL...;)

I also wanted to say, please don't stop posting. We have a great group here and always welcome more. Sometimes we all get alittle "passionate" about a topic and type things and even though we read it one way, it comes out another way via email....

One of the challenges with email...

Hope you stick around. We'd love to have you here!

Can someone please explain to me the emphasis on closing down water-based attractions in sept? When I came to the parks three years ago in sept. it was 90+ degrees out and you definitely appreciated the water based rides and attractions. Its not like its jan-fev. weather wise, so what gives? any thoughts?

I think they refurbish each Popeye and Dudley once a year. Popeye gets done in the fall and Dudley in the winter. I don't know why they close the Curious George play area though.

Maybe some years the refurbishments are more extensive and require a longer time.

I'm really bummed - DH and I have just booked a last minute trip from the UK leaving on Thursday. We have only been to Universal once 4 years ago and LOVED Popeye - infact it was one of the 1st rides we planned to go on. I don't much like coasters etc so Ripsaw does not matter much - but DH will be peeved at the DD ride. Oh well, as long as they don't close Spiderman at the last minute!

Wow!!!! I would HATE to be around if that happened. Lots of unhappy people for sure!!!!!

All things must be closed down and re-furbished from time to time, just imagine if they didn't do that! YUCK!

Sept 7th. Popeye was closed. Rip Saw Falls was open.

Just a thought about water ride refurbishments.. Why doesn't US/IOA take a cue from the rest of the entire world and refurbish these rides when its TOO COLD TO RIDE THEM?!?! How silly is it to close it during 85-95 degree September, but re-open in time for Nanook and Frosty to ride them in December?
