I had read a post here that Popeye and Ripsaw were scheduled to be closed in September --- that is NOT TRUE!!!

I called Islands of Aventure Guest Relations last night and they put me on hold forever while they checked with the Popeye people and they said that POPEYE WILL DEFINATELY BE OPEN IN SEPTEMBER and that it is scheduled to be rehabbed in NOVEMBER.

Hope that helps - I am sure others like me were saddened to see that "rumor/posting" - but at least according to IOA whom I spoke to directly - it is not true!!

Thank god - I love that ride!

Wahoo!!!! My life will be saved. My family likes me again. lol. We have big plans for that ride. I am soooo excited now. Thanks

Glad you posted! We'll be there in Sept. as well, and I had sent an e-mail to Kevin at ioacentral.com and told him to add it to his refurb list. He e-mailed me back today and said it wasn't going to be closed, so you beat me here!

We are going in 3 weeks and the thought of not being able to cool off on those rides just made me so sad. Now I am REALLY looking forward to the heat!

Ah well, guess that means it's likely to be rehabbing when I arrive at the end of November. Kind of a bummer, as I've only done Ripshaw once, and really loved it. That said, I guess it makes sense to rehab it then. There weren't a lot of people riding during my last visit (I go the week after Thanksgiving, and the parks were empty enough that I was able to do both IOA and Universal in a single day).

Funny (in retrospect) story: When I rode RF, I had a log all to myself. They seated me in the back of the log, and off I went. All of a sudden, I became absolutely terrified that when going down those hills, my weight (not that I'm a big guy, but, you know, being alone, in the back of the log) was going to cause the log to hit one of the bumps on that final hill and send the log (and, by extension, me!) careening off into the air, probably taking out a few tourists along the way.

Needless to say, that didn't happen... but it sure added an extra little "thrill" to the ride!

7beasely, did you ask them about Ripsaw too? What's the scoop on that? Thanks for your post!

I'm glad that guest service is saying that. The employees at Popeye are all wondering where they are goin to be placed after the 2nd of Sept when they close down. I went back over there last night and spoke with another lead and he told me the same thing that they will be down right after labor day and might be down until Dec 2nd. He also confirmed that at this time they are holding off on Rip Saw for the re-hab there due to the hand railing not arriving.

I am going to be there the 2nd week of Sept, so I wanted to know as well...I called GS and they told me that Popeye will be open but Ripsaw is always shut down the month of Sept for rehab.

Looks like the Information hasn't fully spread about the Change yet. It will soon, though.

It would make sense for them to start the Popeye re-hab in Sept. since they are going to be using the queue for the Ship of Screams house at HHN. With the ride down, they can utilize the entire queue, rather than just the back half.

I am anxiously awaiting a definite on this. Popeye was the one water ride I figured my kids could go on (even if Ripsaw IS open, I think they're too small), so I am hoping against hope that it won't be closed. With all these closings at IOA, I am considering taking the full day I had planned there and going to one of the Disney parks (sacriledge) instead!

I called guest services and they assured me that the ride (and the queue) will not be closed at all during the month of September. I may call back in a few weeks to check again before we go.

Thank you SOOOO much for that news as you've just made my day! I will be at IOA and USF from 10th-14th September and I really want to go on Popeye again. Also if the Ripsaw, september rehab is pushed back that would be amazing also.

I will be on my own on a couple of the days so I might see some of you there!

I am confused now, so I hope dark marauder or others will clarify this.

Ijust called, and as before, they say ripsaw will be closed for sept.

so, if the handrail issue is pushing back ripsaw's rehab, is it now the case that:

1. both ripsaw AND popeye's will be in open in sept.
2. just popeye's will be open, OR
3. just ripsaw will be open.

sorry to be so dense, just want to make sure I got it right.

thanks for the help!

I'll pick up a map & insert from IOA either Sunday or Monday, and I'll see if I can acquire any further information...

I will try to swing by there on Tuesday and see what is going on also. More than likely will see Popeye closed and Rip Saw open.

I did some Investigating today. Ripsaw is NOT closing for September. Popeye's is, among with several others...

several others that have been mentioned already or...different ones? Thanks for the info as always DM:)
