Well, unfortunately we are going to postpone our trip that we had planned for 22-29 Aug 2009. :sad1:

We will have enough money to cover all of the basic expenses. Our condo in Windsor Hills was already paid for, we would have money for the tickets, food and some souveniers as well as our drive down and back, but we are just concerned that because we had some things come up and had to use some of our savings, we won't have enough of a cushion for the trip.

While I'm sad, I know that is the responsible thing to do. We aren't canceling all together, we are just postponing. Actually, I'm going to start researching a good week for next year right now. Probably spring time.

We went last year in April. But we have to make sure we don't go when the kids have testing in school. Which can be tricky.

With that said, Our condo will be available soon since we are canceling. So, if anyone is looking for accomodations that week. It'll be opening soon. :rotfl:

Sorry you had to postpone your trip. But I'm sure you will have a better time next spring if you aren't worried about how much money you are spending during the trip and whether you overspent your cushion!

Maggie

Been there done that  But it's true that the trip will be a lot more fun without the worry hanging over your head. :thumbsup2

The new trip will be much better - because you won't have these "worries" hanging over your head..

You did the responsible thing..:thumbsup2 Hope you have a blast on the NEW trip!! :goodvibes

I have a free dining package booked from October 3rd to the 9th and am really considering on postponing our trip until March or April. We also had to pull from our savings recently and I think putting the trip of another 5 or 6 months will give us time to rebuild our savings again.
Still undecided......:confused3

I can sympathize, we postponed ours too. We were supposed to go 5/30 but I'm still waiting on some decisions that haven't come through. I'm not sure what my job future will be and going would be forcing some decisions we can't make yet. I was really bummed to disappoint the kids but they took it pretty well. Postponing didn't sound as bad as cancelling I guess and we told them we could take a longer trip in a year or so.

It was still pretty painful to give up our cheap SW flights to ORL though!!

 I had to do the same thing. We were supposed to have gone in April and I canceled (postponed). It was the first time I've ever done that and it ate me up, but now I'm planning for January 2010 and really hoping there's not an issue then.

We will probably be putting our trip off until next :mad:year, too... I will hate to lose the free dining, but I can't really justify going this year....

Yep, we had to postpone ours too. Like you we had some unexpected things come up and the cash flow just isn't there this year. But we will definately be going next year.

I wanted to make a quick trip in June...a last minute getaway.

DVC was able to pull together four nights for me BUT I couldn't find cheap flights. Within a matter of days of making the reservation, I grew uncomfortable that the recent part-time job I'd taken may turn out not to be long-term. So, I cancelled the ressie and will see how things go; whether the job survives or I get some other debt paid down, but I just didn't see how I could justify the trip at this point in time.

Feeling your pain too! We cancelled our June trip after we decided to redo a room in our house thinking that was a cheaper alternative. Unfortunately it's cost us just as much, and now I'm feeling the blues. I'm just trying to remind myself that the new media room will last us indefinitely, but disney would have been just one week. And there's always next year, right?

Sending PIXIE DUST :wizard: to everyone that has had to postpone trips.

I am very fortunate to have completed 2 trips and have 2 more comming up. I did sacrifice to be able to take these trips and we will not be able to go again for a couple of years.
I wish everyone a great rest of the year and SAVE, SAVE, SAVE :grouphug:

I feel your pain.

We had an 11 night WDW/DCL trip booked for August. Seven nights at AKV followed by a 4 night wonder cruise. We used DVC points for our room, already have park tickets and purchased airfare. I had the exact $ amount to pay off the cruise sitting in the savings account ... but then we started adding up everything we still needed to pay for ... tips, transfers, food at WDW and souveniers. And then we started thinking about the new swing set we really need/want for the backyard and how our cars each have over 100,000 miles and how we want a sprinkler system for the backyard installed. Just ughh.

We haven't pulled the trigger yet, but the cancellation is almost a done deal. We purchased the swingset last week and had one sprinkler guy come out for an estimate ... another sprinkler guy is coming out next week. Looks like the cruise money will be just enough to pay for the swingset and the sprinkler. Last night, I booked a 2 night stay at Great Wolf Lodge for July and 5 nights in a cabin at a lakefront campground for August ... together, they should cost about what we would need to pay for food, tips, etc. on our WDW/DCL vacation. We will just have to take a loss ($650) on the airfare for the four of us. We will bank the DVC points for another year.

I'm trying to be positive and saying that we are getting a new sprinkler system, a great swing set and 2 mini vacations (which the girls will love - they adore GWL and camping) for the price of our one Disney trip. But, geez, I'm really struggling with our decision and just need to avoid the Disney Boards (but, no, I keep reading cruise TR's and getting depressed).

Sigh.

Well, though I'm not really glad, it's comforting that I'm not the only one in this situation. Now we are just trying to figure out what month would be good to go next year. My son said he wants to go in February, but I think that's too early. Maybe March...but it that too cold for the pool? Hmmm.

I wish everyone luck with saving again for their trip. Thank you for all of your kind words. At least we can all say that we are being good examples for our children. Don't spend if you can't afford to. Right? :)
