Does anyone else have postmen that look as if they have just walked in off the street and been given a sack of mail?

I think they should at least have a basic uniform to identify them as official postmen (or women).

they are just as scruffy here tim, and we don,t get the post till dinnertime :guilty:
ive seen our postie with a load of mail sitting on the back seat of his car begging for it to get broken in to !!

All the postmen and women round here are dressed in uniform :)

Including my husband and my stepdad.

I suppose it's like all things. They are some properly scruffy people at my work, but when they are on the street they aren't identifiable for where they work as there is no uniform. Any employer (particularly one like the Royal Mail which is one of the country's largest employers I believe) with a uniform is always highly identifiable and thus open to criticism.

I agree that they should wear uniform Tim, why not make a complaint if you feel strongly about it? Nothing will change otherwise.

Personally I couldn't care less what the postman wears as long as he delivers the mail correctly :) which I am glad to say our postman does :teeth:

As a side note he/she (we have different ones occasionally) is always well turned out and very polite and courteous whenever I have had a chance to speak to them :)

I guess we must have high quality of post people in Devon ;)

Yes,

I noticed that the other day, our postman used to where a uniform, but last week i notice he was wearing tracksuit one day and jeans the next.

Well that has completely ruined the image in my mind of your husband - I just assumed he alway wore Jedi robes :rotfl:

But back to you Tim, I never see a postie in our area, and I swear we go days without any post then recieve 3 or 4 days in one go.

Well my postman(John) is always very well turned out in uniform. Infact I dont think I have ever seen a postman around here out of uniform. :)

We do now only get one delivery, at about 11am, Instead of 2 like I used to have at 7.30am and 10.30am, which can be a pain, if you are waiting for a parcel as I am always in work except the weekend. So this normally means I have to make a trip to the local sorting office, but it's not far,so no real problem. :)

Sue

Ours wears a sort of uniform. Blue shirt with a Royal Mail badge (usually unbuttoned to his navel, depending on the weather). Shirt is never tucked in though and can be found flapping above assorted trouser wear, which this week in the hot weather, has rather alarming included shorts...eeeek (if you saw my postman, you would know why this is not a sight to relish!). He also seems to work flexitime, as my mail can come at anytime between 8am and 4pm.

Give him his dues though, he is a friendly sort and will always try his best to deliver (by leaving packages in unusual hiding places!!).

However, when he was on holiday, they must have employed an Asylum Seeker. My suspicions were aroused when I got letters for number 10, 12 and 16 as well as my own. I chased after him and not only couldnt he speak a word of English, he couldnt read the numbers on the letters....unbelievable. He only lasted a day :; !

Sounds like Devon is the place to be for A1 Postie service to me :teeth: .

We havent had a second post for over ten years here, I didnt think it existed anymore! Our postman wears a uniform and is ok, sometimes the post can be very late tho, its come after 2pm before. Ive seen lads delivering post in other areas who only look about 16, who arent in uniform and who ride normal mountain bikes, first time I saw them I thought they must have nicked the post!

Talking of posties hiding mail - we had a large (crisp box size) parcel delivered from Screwfix, and to hide it Parcel Force put it in front of our door and put the door mat on top! No one would ever see it

That's just crazy!

Our postman is always in uniform when I've seen him and seems friendly enough. Our post normally arrives at 11.30ish (special deliveries at 7.30) except some days when it shows up at about 2/3pm. We actually run a business from the house that requires dozens of CDs to be posted to us. We had so many disappearing (mainly those with the record label's logo printed on the envelope - a stupid decision on the label's part I feel as it's obviously going to contain unreleased promo CDs that will sell for loads on ebay) that we had to pay for a PO Box. It's eliminated 99% of the problem, had about 1 go missing this year! :cheer2:

Our post man sometimes wears a uniform shirt, with assorted trousers/shorts or sometimes whatever seems to take his fancy on the day. His deliveries come between 07.30 and 3pm. He also likes to give us mail for lots of our neighbours, even though the envelopes are correctly addressed!

We used to have a very nice man who came at 07.20 , come rain or shine - sadly those days have gone along with the second delivery.

The postmen and women around here are usually in uniform - the only time they're not is when they're new and being trained, and then they're accompanied by someone in uniform.

No complaints about the mail with our 'regulars' :)

My dad was a postie for a few years back in the 70s, and I'm sure his uniform then wasn't as practical as the one ours have now. I did the Christmas post one year when I was a student - I was so thrilled when I got my first Christmas tip!

Met our postman for the first time last week. Not really bothered what he/she wears as long as they deliver our mail efficiently, which they seem to do.

Well, just to show how very very ancient I am, I can remember my dad, who was a postmaster, used to go out on secret visits to see if his postmen were wearing their caps correctly on their rounds!!! Now that really is a long time ago when they had to wear caps! Ours always wear shorts whatever the weather and look extremely scruffy which wouldn't matter quite so much if they could actually arrive a.m. and not give me other people's mail while delivering mine to my neighbour!!! Fings ain't what they used to be!!! (I'm definitely turning into a grumpy old woman!!! ;) )

My postie is always impeccable, very polite, a real gent, he'll even go to the trouble of walking back UP the road, going behind my neighbouring 3 houses (through their gardens) and through my very difficult to open back gate to hide parcels in my back courtyard! (although this is a PITA as unless its sunny I don't tend to go out there!) :)

It would certainly brighten up the day if the postie wore Jedi robes!!!:rotfl2:
