Do you really have to wait 30 days before your scheduled reservation to rent them??

Only if you want to post them on the rent/trade board here. You always have other options such as renting to family or friends, co workers, or on some other website.

It is our rule on the DIS R/T Board and we strictly enforce it.

This rule was implemented to discourage members from booking the most popular times at the most popular resorts purely on the speculation of renting the reservation for profit. Yet it allows members that have an unexpected emergency arise a chance to recover some $ rather than having those points go into holding/non-bankable status, which is helpful, especially if you are near the end of your use year.

There are other sites that allow this, but we will not allow rental posts on speculation.

thank you, We have to cancel, because jetblue changed the flights and one thing has led to another.

Sorry you had to cancel your trip. As long as you cancel the DVC reservation at least 31 days prior to arrival, the points get returned to your account without penalty. You do not have to rent the reservation you already have to recover your money.

To add to what Chuck posted -

You can use the DIS R/T Board to offer to rent points for any dates.

DIS R/T Board rules allow you to solicit requests for any dates and then make the reservations for the dates requested.

The rules do not allow you to first make a reservation and then solicit requests for specific dates, unless the dates are 30 days or less away.

Bottom line: To use the DIS R/T Board, the rental request has to come before the reservation is made.

Remember that if you use the DIS R/T Board to offer a reservation more than 30 days away by any means, which includes via PM, email or posting in another poster's thread, you could permanently lose access to the R/T Forum.
