Its about time! I wish that restaurants did it on their own insted of having to be legislated in a bill about Health Care/Insurance though.

Calories to be on menu

It will definately make me more aware of what I'm ordering. Hard to imagine that most of the foods on menus described as "healthy" options really aren't. Or the entrees that seem so harmless are actually worse than some of the worse sounding items.

They do this in Washington and it really has made a difference for me. We watch our calories pretty carefully (hubby is down 120 pounds now!) but occasionally have a "whatever we want" day. Seeing the calories on those taco bell nachoes was so horrifying right there in front of me I just couldn't do it.

I'm glad to hear this. However, I hope that something is done to make sure the calorie counts are accurate. I've read in a few places that they aren't always accurate. I also think servings can be misleading in some packaged foods. I would rather know that my entire bottled drink is 300 calories as opposed to 120 at 2 1/2 servings. Yes, I'm aware that the math is wrong. :lmao:

The inaccurate caloric information is a problem. See this and this article.

I have no real problem with the serving size thing as long as it is reasonable. A can of Coke is one serving and should be treated as such. A large package of anything can realistically be more then one serving. One of the most overlooked aspects of reading labels is the serving size. People would be surprised to hear that 1/3 or 1/2 cup is often the serving size of a bowl of cereal.

I've always been a big believer in full disclosure and then letting people make up their own minds.

Will this bill require more than just calories? I'm trying to watch my fat/ cholesteral intake. So just knowing calories won't help me much.

But as a side note, I have lost over 10 pounds just cutting my fat intake.:woohoo:

I love the calorie range posting. They do that here in NYC. I also think they passed it in NJ recently.
It has made a huge difference when I go out to lunch. There are times that I don't care about the calorie count (splurge lunch) but 99% of the time I look at the calorie count and go - :scared1:!!

I'd be worried about them shaving a few hundred calories off what's posted. But it would make me more aware of what I'm eating.

I also hate it when packages that are designed as "single serving" really are two or three servings in such a small package. That really pack a punch to the calorie count.
