so I am adding a night at POR onto our stay in march and the only view left for the royal rooms is pool view and it is 194...is it worth that to get a royal room?? we are already splurging at the poly and this is a hard sell to convince DH to stay there....just want to get a good deal and know if it is worth it.

also, what is the pool like at POR??

The pool at POR is okay. It is pretty basic with a slide. There is also a kids' pool and hot tub. I really don't think it is worth the extra money to stay in a Royal Room with a pool view for one night. However, that is something only you can decide. We stayed in a Royal Room last trip. If I were splurging on Poly first, I would definitely skip the Royal Room.

Thanks! I really want to add another night on the beginning of our trip so was thinking of doing DTD or maybe DHS that day....so was suggested royal room and they look cute. I really wanted to stay at LM room but none available...what to do?!

POr is a really nice hotel as it's a big resort. Have you checked the photos for the royal room on this site http://portorleans.org/royal-rooms.php my girls would love to stay in that room but we can't fit in 1 room while we can in all the other rooms. As for the main pool, it's not htta bad. Once again that site as many pictures. What I like at POR is the fact that you have quiet pools around the resort. 6 pools to choose from is real nice in my opinion.

wow, :confused3
the main pool at POR at Ol Man Island is really nice. Kids love it. There is a windy slide for kids and adults alike, there are shooting water streams as you swim or go around the little island at the end closest to the bar area, there is a trough overhead that spills water in that same area. Theres also a kids area pool and a hot tub. In addition there are 5 or 6 more Leisure pools around the resort as well.
As far as Poly, we did club level and tho it was a beautiful visit, we actually loved the idea that at POR we had options and not everyone is crammed into one area pool. So I guess its all about what you are looking for.

As to the room choice, we only choose preferred rooms at POR, as it is building 14/18 and they are right next to the main area, the fabulous food court, arcade, inside bar, piano man Bob, the Big sundries shop and the main bus depot. I believe the other room mentioned is way in the back of the resort which then means Lots more walking....Having been to several deluxes, it always feels like POR is more themed and has more to offer (including the beautiful boat ride to DTD area) that any other mod and a big step up from a value on property. The hotels at Disney that indicate Deluxe (with the exception of GF are way below Deluxe hotels the world over, no comparison in amenities etc, but Disneys Hype has caught on from years of great marketing ;) Business travelers that have stayed Deluxe elsewhere realize it right away, but I digress.)
If I were staying 1 night, Id get a room for convenience/location. The river view rooms can be even the slightest sliver of water thru your window. The pool views can get noisy sometimes as well....
Just my two cents...
Have a magical stay and enjoy both resorts, they are both nice!

We stayed 1 night in a Royal Room at POR before checking into the Yacht last August. We didn't have a pool view and I can't remember what we paid, but I wanted to check out those rooms and see if we could ever go to a moderate resort. We usually stay deluxe.
The value was that I found out, we'd be just fine at a moderate (at least the Royal Rooms at POR). So next trip, we might just stay there the whole time.

If I really just needed a place to stay for the night, then I would just stay at the Hampton Inn or Fairfield Inn or something near Downtown Disney.

The pool view in a Royal Room will be a view of the quiet pool and not the main pool, in case that wasn't realized. The quiet pool in the Royal Room area is sufficient but nothing to write home about. It's actually a little hike to get to the main pool from this area.

I haven't stayed in a Royal Room myself since we have no interest, but we do love POR. If that's all that was available, we would go for it before switching resorts. We have stayed there for just one night before for the ease to DTD which was great.
