I need to move this thread, I accidentally posted it in the wrong place! Can someone help? I wanted to put it on the community board.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

It occured to me that I love the US. I love the food that we can't get here (fruit loops, twinkies, sour skittles...), I love the tv you get and the fact that everything is so much cheaper than it is in the UK.

I live in London and wondered what the US dis'ers thought of the UK...and why?

I thought it would be interesting to see how good/bad we perceive other's homes to be!

I've never been but I'm DYING to visit!

I think of London as this bustling, fashionable city (where I'm itching to shop :) ) with a fascinating mix of modern lives existing right along incredible historical sites. All the things that happened there, and having access to see "now and then" all in one city (the U.S. is just so young, we don't get to experience it on that same level). I mean, you people have CASTLES, how cool is that?! :teeth:

There's so much more access to other cultures then I see where I am, different foods to experience, etc. It just looks like such a beautiful, amazing place with more to see then I could accomplish in many visits!

Then there's that whole scenic countryside thing. I could be wrong, but I picture little villages, pubs, sheep on the hillside. Look, you can only watch Pride and Prejudice so many times without getting that impression :rotfl: I have to rein myself in and remind my imagination that what they show on tv is rarely the way it is. I mean, everyone thinks Texas is this big flat dusty area and everyone rides a horse and wears a big hat.

I adore British humor as well. And no, you can't have Hugh Laurie back, he's ours now :rotfl:

I have to admit your images are pretty accurate. I go to college in Devon in the South West and its just like that. And if you drive just a few miles out of where I live in London, that is what you'll find, rolling hills, lots of trees and plenty of castles.

Shopping in London is great I suppose although I live in central London and cannot find a bikini for my DCL cruise anywhere!!!! But I suppose apart from that it's quite cool.

Its really nice to hear people say things like that, it reminds me of the good things about living here.

My husband was born and raised in London, so I've spent quite a bit of time there. I've actually seen more of England than he has. :) I love England....though I have to admit, after living in London for 4 months, I was ready to go home. But that's just because I'm not much of a city person - or, at least, I wasn't then.

I agree with the whole aspect of history. There's something awe inspiring about seeing things that are as old as all known history.... we only have a couple of hundred years here in the US as far as architecture and such is involved.

As far as things being more expensive - I found a dress in central London that I'll be wearing on our cruise for formal night for 30 pounds. You can't beat that :) And hubby swears that US chocolate is nowhere near as good as British chocolate... so we always come home with a carryon filled with Aeros, Buttons, Flakes, etc. And Micro-chips! He misses those! :)

Grass is always greener, I suppose... :)
