I have been pouring over everyone's scrapbook pages on this site and all over the net, basically. I have seen quite a few pages that use postcards as an embellishment. WHAT A CONCEPT. Never would have thought of that one. :headache:

I know the hotel shop (POP) should have a nice selection of them but where else would I buy them from in the parks? I'd like to get ones of restaurant signs and ones of the rides especially. Do they sell them like this? Or are they mostly of characters, castle, park icons, etc? Can someone point me in the right direction?

What else would you include as embellishments on your pages other than the typical stickers, die cuts, etc? I would really like to make a whopper of an album for this trip and I'm getting so excited. I've also seen people cut up the park maps and brochures and use pieces of them also. I'm sure for this I'll need that archival mist stuff. But I'd really like to get some different examples. Please tell.

I admit I haven't done much postcard hunting at WDW (darn it, I should have!), but I do remember seeing a rack of them at World Of Disney.

I bought two "books" of postcards in the shop at CSR. What was great was that the postcards tore off, leaving a "mini" postcard (a bit like a cheque book stub) so you could note which card you sent to who - or of course use them in your scrapbook! I didn't because I was too :scared1: they wouldn't be acid and lignin free (and we can't get archival mist here, as far as I know). Some of the cards were of rides (TT, BTM, Spl M), there was a lovely picture of of each of the park icons (though I have to say my "partners" pphoto was better :rolleyes1 ) I'm sure most of the retail opportunities will have something. I didn't look much because these two books sorted me out, but I wish I'd thought to check the carts for show postcards

Can you buy a ph tester pen? I use it on the back of things that I am not sure are acid free. I also mount items onto card stock so that the item doesn't touch anything else if I am not sure.

I use postcards, stickers that the kids get, paper coasters, etc. I just make sure they are mounted on 'good' paper or do not touch my pictures. I have brochures, maps, etc. in pocket pages.

I'm the crazy one always asking for a extra clean fry basket, basket liner (one time had really cool icons on them), searching for popcorn buckets, etc. I also save the picks that come in the drinks in counter service restaurants, usually with a lemon slice, and used them on the pages.

In 2004, in the American pavillion at Epcot, I found a great postcard booklet with one postcard from each country. They may still have these available.

OT - I noticed the coaster with Mickey on it on your layout, bnf2, in this thread and one other. Would anyone be willing to part with one and send one to me? I would be happy to offer something in trade or pay postage for one. Thanks!

I don't have any or I would be happy to share- those were from our 2004 trip and for some reason I didn't 'pick' any up this last time. Yes, I posted that picture on the "things you've stolen/borrowed from WDW thread. I seem to recall someone there had stacks of them in her Longaberger coaster basket (:lmao: too bad I didn't think of that!!!) Maybe you could PM her?

don't forget fast passes, the cards they give out with your picture # for the rides (I got one for Buzz), room cards, EMH bracelets. If you like bulky stuff I use the charms from the charm bracelets on tags.

If you have a scanner, you can scan them into your computer then print them on photo paper which is what I do. I'm really happy with how my intro page turned out. I scanned in all the items then printed them off on photo paper. Works great! :) Also works for those rides and places that you can't get photos. For the one Civil War museum in MD they don't allow any photography inside, but they sell postcards with some of the vignettes. My sister bought those and I just scanned them and printed them. Same with the Holocaust Museum in DC. Postcards and their website really helped! ;) And whereever we go, I always make sure I grab extra maps/guides to use for scrapbooking. I think I brought back at least 20 MK guides, though that had more to do with Captain Jack on the cover than actual scrapbooking! ;)

I pick up everything and anything to put in my albums; Our tickets, the monorail co pilot cards, the parking pass, the tags from my new Disney crocs. I did notice this last trip, postcards were not in abundance in the gift shops. I had to hunt them down.

It is amazing when you start scrapbooking and then go to Disney how differently you look at pictures to take and memorabilia to use.

Have a wonderful time, and have fun working on your Disney album remembering all the fun you had.

Unfortunately, WDW is in "streamlining" mode (annoying) so some of the good stuff is disappearing. Like they used to have cards where they wrote down your photo number, each ride was different.

I don't know if they still have, but the napkins in the various sitdown restaurants used to have the restaurant logo on them.

The drink sticks used to be different, don't know if they still have those

The hotels used to have little info booklets about various restaurants with the restaurant logo on the front.

You can ask for copies of menus

They have stacks of coloring pages for the kids, I like to pick up one each and then I use them for paper piecing patterns.

There are lots of different stickers. The security people have their own, first aid has their own.

When we were there in 2005 all the napkins were the same - sort of beige with a Mickey logo. Or else I wasn't paying attention. I had one stuck in my "bad" album but didn't transfer it to the scrapbook "just in case"

ETA I put room keys and park passes in memorabilia pockets to keep everything safe, and so we can take them out to look at if we want

I have always used postcards in my Disney scrapbooks - for my very first scrapbook they were some of the only decent pictures I had!

Having said that, Disney definitely does not have a huge selection of postcards to choose from. There are some from my 2000 trip and album that you can still find in the parks! A lot of generic character pictures, the big park icons, etc. It's more unusual to find specific ride ones and restaurant ones are non-existent. Some of the resorts have ones specific to them (I know AKL does, the All Stars used to) that you will only find at the hotel gift shop. Throughout the parks you will find packaged postcard sets, one for each of the 4 major parks, containing 10-12 postcards of different rides, scenes, etc. I recommend getting all of those. They also have the postcard books Mazda mentioned which are also good.

I got one April of 2005 on Buzz.
I'll keep a look out for freebies when we are there and make notes.

I love to use the rolled/flat pennies that you can roll in the parks and resorts (there's a list of them available from guest services apparently).

I got some amazing postcards last trip (Oct '06). I've attacherd some of the best below. My favourite is the map of the Harambe wildlife reserve. Check out the Art of Disney stores, they sometimes have mini versions of the big posters.

Those are pretty cool postcards. I'll keep my eye out on them. I'm sure I can find a few here and there.

I've started a list by looking through post after post, keep adding and adding too lol. Will be there 12 days in August and am already thinking I'll wind up with 3 or 4 scrapbooks just from this one trip.

maps, napkins, confetti from parades, coasters, fast passes, tickets, room keys, do not disturb sign, stickers, postcards, airline boarding passes, menu's, luggage tags, photo passes, drink sticks, stuff with restaurant logo's and list is growing.

I like to keep a fastpass or two from each trip. I'm not much for rollercoasters, so we always seem to have few left over.

Here's a neat idea, and this works for other trips as well. Buy cool postcards, with cool stamps, and write out a mini trip report and mail it back to yourself for your scrapbook.
