I received a postcard in the mail yesterday re: DVC from Disney. Unfortunately, I did not bring it to work with me today, so I can't quote it 100%, but it was inviting me to order the DVC video and also mentioned a possible complimentary visit to view DVCs. Has anyone gotten this and has anyone received a complimentary visit? And has anyone done the complimentary visit? I do not own a DVC, though I am quite intrigued. My family and I were in WDW for New Years, staying onsite, so I'm wondering if this is why I received this postcard.

The Complimentary Vacation is one of the perks being offered to folks who buy into DVC. The cost for buying 150 points (the minimum) at Saratoga Springs direct from DVC is $14,250.

One can buy points via the secondary market (resale) for 15-20% less, but those contracts are often short in duration as well.

DVC is great for people who plan to spend siginifcant time in Walt Disney World accommodations over the next several decades. The breakeven point on the initial investment is often somewhere in the 6-8 year neighborhood, depending on how economically points are used.

Perhaps it needs to be emphasized that this perk is received after purchasing, and not for the purpose of "testdriving" the resort.

It probably is talking about the vacation you get after purchasing.

However, I was given a complimentary stay in a 1 BR Marriott villa at Ocean Pointe in W. Palm Beach just to listen to their 90 minute buying presentation. I did not buy, but I did enjoy my stay! (Actually, I think I was charged $99.) This was in 2001.

Not yet a DVC owner myself, but I did get a similar postcard offering a rate of $74 per night at French Quarter (I forget which dates were valid, but I went in the beginning of December) and 2 2-day park hopper plus passes, just for taking the tour.

Needless to say, as I was already booked at POP at a slightly lower rate, I called and switched my reservation.

Before reading the responses to the OP, I thought the "complimentary visit to view the DVCs" may just be referring to the tour?

Hard to say if they are referring to the additional vacation equivalent to your first yrs points (I don't think many people do this now becuase you still can't use it till you close, which is months after purchase) or referring to just the tour, or something else altogether.....

Actually, if you opt for the Developer's Points promotion, you do get the points immediately upon completion of the purchase agreements. They require buyers to sign an additional agreement detailing the fees that must be paid to DVC if the Developer's Points are used and then the closing does not occur as scheduled for some reason.

Thanks for your responses. I'm going to give the 1-800 number a call and get some info. I'll keep you posted.

I got the same offer... with my DVC planning video. Since I was planning to purchase anyway... after extensive research.... I called and spoke with a rep. The offer is $10.00 off per point that you purchase OR a complimentary stay at Disney for the equal amount. This is due to SSR not being available until the end of the year. The rep said that this offer is expiring at the end of the month as they are planning on going back to the old way of selling back your first years points as a credit towards your purchase. Personally, I took the $10 per point because for me that made the most sense.

(very excited.. just gave my down payment for SSR.. going down to sign the papers next week!!)
