If you're going to cancel a reservation or need a reservation on certain dates/resorts please post it here. It might help some disboards members find a reservation with the dates they need. I know some cancellations might go to the waitlist but then again some might not. If you find a match with a Disboard member maybe you can set up a time to cancel and give the other member the best chance to get the reservation on the RAT

I have a reservation at the BWV for a Studio with a Boardwalk view for the dates of December 12-15th that I will need to cancel

Not that your idea isn’t a good one because it is, you do however need to factor in wait lists they potentially should catch anything which there is a request for. So even if you try to coordinate the new taker might not get it.

I think this is likely a futile endeavor because of waitlists. And for me a person waitlisted deserves first go at it. I've certainly check the boards after the fact if I've cancelled something prime and like to think my cancellation went to someone here but if it went to a non-posting member who was further up in line that's fine too.

In my experience, waitlists come through far less infrequently than just scooping up the reservations that come through on RAT. So far for my trip in January, I've booked 5 nights at BW. I waitlisted the last two days for both CCV and BC. At lunch last week, I was stalking the RAT and saw that the two nights I had waitlisted for at CCV were open...but my waitlist didn't come through. I called up member services and booked them. I also asked why my waitlist didn't just kick in and he told me that they're a little behind on the waitlists.

I don't know exactly what "a little behind" means but I take it as meaning that waitlists are filled, first come first serve, at a particular time of day. A program likely runs through an checks RAT and books/cancels rooms. Now, if another member sees and books that room before the waitlists are checked? Well, that room that had opened up is no longer open.

For the same trip, after I got the CCV reservation myself without a waitlist, I waitlisted the first part of my stay at BC. Three nights over MLK weekend. As usual when I first get into the office (and then at lunch), I checked RAT. And yesterday? My three nights at BC opened. AND I HAVE A WAITLIST THERE! I called member services and booked BC. So, two waitlists. Same vacation. None came through. I still got exactly what I wanted?

That tells me that being online at a time of a cancel is more important than a WL.

I wonder if it's dependent on when you're stalking...or I just got extremely lucky the last two weeks.

I agree with @KAT4DISNEY -- and am not crazy about this. The system is designed to work via the waitlist system. I know we all want to get an advantage, but this is a means to undermine the system that we want to work. I'd like to know that I'm getting a fair view via the RAT and do not have a list of sites I have to stalk so as to not miss out on an equal chance. A person who waitlisted it and is first in line deserves any room that might be grabbed out here so it's not right.

If the system was made to work via the waitlist, the rooms would go through the waitlist requests first and then hit the RAT. But as we know that is not how it works. They have the same thing set up for dining reservations on the boards so what's the big deal? I guess I'll just continue to stalk and hope everyone gets the rooms they want.

There really SHOULD be a system in place that as soon as there is a cancellation, before it goes back onto RAT, that the WL bot grabs it and applies it to the first person on the WL. I just have a feeling that because everyone waitlists differently, and dates could be off by one or two, that there's likely a PERSON behind the waitlists doing the canceling/booking. I would much rather just wait list and wait but that doesn't seem to be something that Disney wants to do for it's members.

True, you'd think they'd fill waitlists the instant they are released. But still. Doesn't mean we should make it worse.

I agree that it's not right but Disney has given us a faulty system and many people haven't got their waitlist filled when it should have but went to the RAT. Once it goes to the RAT it is free game for everyone. Not just the ones who got their waitlist skipped. Ill use any advantage i can if it's within the rules. I doubt my plan will work most of the time but to me its worth the shot

Often when there are posts similar to this the waitlists actually have matched but people haven't realized it. And CM's say the darndest things.

Was the waitlist still showing on your Dashboard? If gone from there it had matched and was just waiting to be completed. It would have still been showing up under the waitist section of your account though until the match was finished by a CM.

Personally I also have only had waitlists make the match and haven't found the room available unless it actually was yet a second room that had become available.

I cancelled this for a disboard member and 1 of the 3 nights went straight to the Rat

Thanks again huskerfanatic7 for trying this morning! I even followed up with a call to MS and they too confirmed only the 12th was available.

So that means (presumably) the wait list system worked. Someone(s) had waitlisted the other 2 nights, which were pulled and never put on the RAT. I know there are reports of the waitlist not always working and people seeing stuff on the RAT that they have waitlisted, though. The part I can't figure out is why the waitlist sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't seem to be working.

Your stalking/persistence paid off. Congratulations!

Thanks for trying! Yes, the waitlist system is very inconsistent and grabs many cancellations, but not all.

I just cancelled BWV Studio Boardwalk view 10/17-10/18 and it went right to RAT.
