This sounds good! Someday when I host Christmas dinner at my house, I'm going to make a Mexican feast too. :woohoo:

My grandparents usually have a ham and traditional stuff with it, and also lots of desserts. :)

Hopefully this thread will give me some ideas. I'm only making Christmas Dinner for 2 this year and don't have a clue what to make.

I am cooking my very first Christmas dinner this year!

Turkey (the boneless, skinless ones)
dressing
sweet potato souffle
carrots in brown sugar
sauteed cabbage
rice and gravy
rolls
strawberry cheesecake ice cream pie

We had a Mexican feast at our house for Christmas one year and everyone loved it. It was a really nice change from the traditional, and very tasty, too! :thumbsup2

This year we're going to my aunt's house and some of the things we are having are

Prime Rib
Twice-baked potatoes
Cheesy Carrot/Cauliflower casserole
Cherry Pretzel torte--dessert

Taco dip-I'm making this for an appetizer

I'm not sure what else we're having though.

Prime rib
Twice baked potatoes
romain salad w/ grapefruit and poppysead dressing
and rolls
Maybe a veggie

Reservations would be my preferance :)

ummm...I probably should plan that out, shouldn't I? hmmm. I think we are going to go ahead and make a beef tenderloin. will definitely have a salad. maybe baked or mashed potatoes. asparagus. rolls. trifle for dessert. not sure what else I'll have, but that's pretty good so far, anyway.

Details please

Mmm...Pretzel Torte is so good. :)
I don't have that exact recipe on hand right now, but it's very similar to this recipe:
http://www.cooks.com/rec/doc/0,1613,153179-233195,00.html

CHERRY PRETZEL TORTE

1 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
2 c. coarsely crushed pretzels
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/2 c. powdered sugar
2 (1 1/2 oz.) pkg. Dream Whip
1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling

Melt butter. Add sugar and blend. Remove from heat and add pretzels and stir lightly. Reserve 3/4 cup for topping. Press remaining in 9x13 inch pan.
Blend cream cheese and powdered sugar together. Whip topping according to directions on package, fold into cream cheese mixture. Spread half of mixture over crust. Spread cherry pie filling carefully over mixture. Spread remaining mixture over cherry filling. Top with reserved pretzel mixture. Refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
-----------
Some versions use Cool Whip instead of Dream Whip, but the recipe we use calls for Dream Whip.
You can also substitute Blueberry pie filling (or any pie filling you'd like, actually) for the Cherry pie filling if you so desire. :)

Shrimp Cocktail
Prime Rib w/ horseradish sauce
twice baked potatoes
sauteed mushrooms
roasted asparagus or roasted green beans

Lofthouse sugar cookies and See's Peanut Brittle

My sister and I always make the same menu...easy, festive, everyone will eat it, and it is balanced...except for the huge amount of fat. Sometimes we just put the shrimp in the twice-baked potatoes and skip the app course.

My friends and I (all military families) rarely get to go home to our "real" family during ANY holidays, so we always share the holiday meals, alternating which houses to go to. I did Easter and Thanksgiving this year, and we are hosting Christmas Eve as well. For that, I am serving appetizers: meatballs (with grape jelly and chili sauce), stuffed mushrooms (with bacon and cream cheese), and a friend is bringing traditional Christmas meat pies (Tourtiere).

Christmas dinner will be at another friend's house and we will have:
Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Peas, (and turnip and carrot, if I have my way!)
I will be making scalloped potatoes and ham.
