After week at WDW, would like to try a beach for a few days.

How's Cocoa Beach? How calm is the water? Where to stay?

How similar is Cocoa Beach to Ft Lauderdale Beach (loved the water there)?

Any other beach area to try?

Thank you.

Coco Beach I have heard has move waves than some of the Gulf coast beaches. Are you looking for calm waters? Clearwater Beach, two hours the other way from Orlando, is know for great white sand and calm waters. It's a favorite of my family. We usually just do day trips, so I can't recommend a hotel. Booking.com is a good site for hotel reviews that I use a alot.

Cocoa Beach is pretty much center of surfing world for florida so I'd guess you'd say waves can be more than Lauderdale area.

it isn't ALWAYS surf time but it can be and many times there is 'just enuf' for surfing and not overpowering.

You'll find similar conditions pretty much from the Port / Jetty park to Sebastion. Some areas are built up and have concessions and life guards and others are pretty wide open. Jetty Park and near 'the pier' are built up ... south end of Patrick Space/Air Force base is pretty 'empty' most of the time.
