I went through all my receipts and determined how much, if anything we saved by using the 2008 DDP for our 8-night stay last week. We had some problems with other family on the trip who were not on the DDP requiring us to eat offsite for more meals than planned. Therefore, we ended up paying more out of pocket than we needed (I paid for an early buffet at Play and Dine OOP because the plan was going to leave us short TS meals--bad move). We ended up with 3 TS credits and 5 CS credits unused. We did use all our snack credits.

Even with leaving credits on the table, we did not lose money on the Dining Plan. I am not sure of the tax rate on food, but whatever it is, that is what we saved. Before tax we were -$2.65 for the trip (we lost $2.65 on the DP). Obviously, we spent more out of pocket on tips than we would have with the 2007 plan; however, the DP is still a good deal. If you use all the credits, a family of three could easily save $150.

Here are the numbers:

1. Total out of pocket food costs (including meals offsite, tips, alcohol, 2 mugs): $419.19
2. Total of Food Covered by Dining Plan: 709.11 plus tax (794.21?)
3. Total Cost of Dining Plan: 711.76
4. Total Trip Food Costs for 8 nights: 1130.95 or $141.37 per day
