We just finished our 9th cruise yesterday. At the end of the shows in the Walt Disney Theater, the cruise director always makes a few comments, usually providing helpful information for the next day. During our last 3 cruises (all within the last year), I noticed something that I had not noticed on the 6 prior ones. Many people in the audience have gotten up and left the theater at the end of the show and during the CD's remarks. Others stand around and talk loudly with the people around them. It has made it harder to hear the CD for those of us who are trying to pay attention and, in my opinion, it is rude to the CD. There may well be circumstances that would require some people to rush out of the theater quietly at the next possible break, but I can't imagine over half the theater is experiencing them. Does this bother anyone else? Is it just me, or has it gotten much worse lately? Also, my 14-year-old daughter pointed out that the CDs on our last 3 cruises were women (Ashley and Lesley), so as much as I hate to say this, we wonder if there is some gender bias involved. Are people doing this to the men CDs, too?

I saw a little of this just a bit more talking during our fantasy cruise last April with a male cruise director. I think people are just rude.

I think people think of the CDs remarks like the credits of a movie. It is rude when someone's speaking, but I think the CD should do that work in the beginning and just do a quick 'thanks for coming' if it's becoming worse. We are a society used to automation, not live entertainment. Heck, people don't even say thanks anymore when you hold the door for them. They're so used to automatic doors that they don't even notice when someone is holding it.

The talking while someone on stage is talking is rude, but I in no way blame people for walking out. They are paying hundreds of dollars per hour to go on that cruise, and they are not required to sit around and listen to something they do not care about.

I think they're are just some rude people out there. On my last cruise during the show the woman in front of me was talking on her wave phone and then gave it to her 2 y/o son to play with. The screen kept lighting up in the dark theater. I understand Disney is geared toward kids but you should still have courtesy for fellow passengers.

there are other activities that start right after the show, perhaps would like to get to them on time
agree info can be given b/f show, can get it on app or navigator too,
last 3 cruises in '17 & '18 CD's were male, yes people start to leave and talk and can not hear

Usually the CD gives their spiel before the show.

If gender were at play everyone would have stayed. My sons couldn't get enough of our British female CD (forgot name) the one time we were on a sailing with her. They hung onto her every word. Lol.

Just came to me-- natalie!

I also thought these announcements were usually before the show.

I miss the welcome show when they talked about the whole trip and give previews of the different shows and entertainers.

We stayed and sat quietly for the first 3 nights. On the last night, pin trading had already started which my daughter was wanting to do, so we got up and left. I thought the announcements were way too long.

This. 100%

People are so precious these days!!!

we were on the wonder recently, and yes, this happened every time. We stayed and tried to listen to the CD. I think it is very rude. it is only for a few minutes. Maybe guests are trying to beat the crowd all trying to exit.

Just a question: when this happens, are the house lights in the theater on or off? If They are on, I can understand it. In the normal world when house lights go on, it means the show is over, we are done, you can go.

I have never cruised before, so I wouldn't know or expect anyone on stage after the curtain call. My aim in theaters after a show is to get out asap as I hate being stuck in crowds. If someone would come on stage as I am leaving, I wouldn't expect any important announcements after a show from the cruise director as not everyone goes to see the show.

At this moment (before my first cruise) i do not know exactly what a cruise director does, but have seen some 'Good morning' shows on YouTube. To be honest... by the sound of it, if the cruise director would start repeating things I have heard on the 'Good morning' show, have read in my navigator etc, yes I would probably continue leaving the theater as I am on vacation, my choice how to spend my time.

I do agree with you on those who stay behind talking while someone is on stage. However, this could be encouraged by switching on the house lights. But to me, when you are done, get out of the theater, as the cleaners need to get in to do their work.

As others said, other activities to go to,
for those who have a 2nd seating for dinner, you might want to get a shower and get changed for dinner. Or (Young) children who need to go to bed.

If this is okay because someone has paid a lot of money to be on a DCL cruise I guess that explains why people think it is okay to hog pool loungers when they are not supposed to, jump in front of others getting in the elevator, let their kids run around the ship like houligans, etc., etc., etc. No, this is just rude; shows no class or respect for others.

Clearly having the comments prior to the show would be the best way to insure your audience is tuned in. I have put this comment in with our survey on many of our cruises and on our last few cruises, it was prior to the show.

Our experience on almost every cruise on DCL with shows is this:
CD comes out and asks if everyone had a great day in port/at sea/whatever. Does a little warm up of the crowd for the show. <-House lights go down prior
Show
CD comes out and briefly speaks about activities coming up that evening as well as information for the next day. <- House lights come up after.
I have seen the aftershow bit where the house lights did come on but that was during rough seas, so I assume they were trying to accommodate people who may have had to leave early and needed to do so safely.

I think theater etiquette is not a widely known thing in society these days so people don't know it's rude.

That's a bit of a leap. The example I was mentioning was just walking out after a show, during comments you don't care to hear and that can be found in a piece of paper found in your room and on an app, many of which are veiled sales pitches. Not exactly the same thing as any of the poor behaviors you listed, at least in my mind.

Unsure how somebody leaving a theatre to go and do something else, after the main act is finished, but during an overly enthusiastic CD speaking about readily found information, is “rude” and against etiquette?

If I want to get going, in order to get back to the room and shower before dinner, or get to another activity, or just because I want a head start on some beers, who is anybody to stop me?

I agree with you when the house light come up, the show is over. At that point the audience is free to gather up their belongings, take small children by the hand and exit the theater.
