Just got back from my post op visit to the surgeon who took out my GB. I've been having a problem with one of the incision sites. 3 of the 4 have been perfect but the fourth one has been hurting and, if I stay on my feet too long, there is actually an area that is bulging out of it. The doctor said it might be a hernia. :sad2:

The most common thing would be a hematoma though and I've got my fingers crossed that that is the problem. A hematoma will resolve itself in about a month, a hernia will not and would most likely require surgery to fix it. I blame my 1 hour shopping trip at Wal Mart for this. Prior to doing that a week ago, that area wasn't bothering me at all.

She told me to give it another 3 weeks and then call if it wasn't better. All good thoughts are most welcome. I've really had it with having surgery. :(

Well, I hope for your sake that it is the hematoma. I actually got one of those in my breast after surgery and it wasn't fun.

I think, after surgery, many of us rush to do too much too soon and it just causes problems.

I'm sure you'll be extra careful for here on out. Kick back, put your feet up for awhile, and EAT!!!

My puppy got a hemotoma after her snippage and it gets ugly looking:scared: but it did resolve itself and you would never know.
I hope it is that for your sake.

Sorry to hear this. Prayers and pixie dust on the way so that soon you will be as good as new.

I pray everything goes well for you and things get resolved. I had minor hernia surgery and the dr. thought I was developing a hematoma too but he was mistaken and it was a major staph infection that almost killed me. I then had to have surgery by another surgeon and the little hernia turned into a giant mess that is now fixed by a nice big piece of plastic in my stomach. Dont wait if your symptons get worse. Best of luck.Feel better.

Ya know, I just got word from my internist this morning that she's referring me to the surgeon to have my gallbladder out....I probably shouldn't have opened this thread since I'm supposed to be calling the dr right now and actually have a couple DISers on MSN IM right now telling me to make the call... Think that reading your thread is a sign that I shouldn't call? :rotfl2: Uh, maybe not. ;) I hope that you get better soon and that it's nothing that you'll need more surgery for!

I had emergency surgery to remove mine two weeks ago. It wasnt fun but it wasnt as awful as I had anticipated. I got to go home the next day. I go back to work tomorrow and I am still pooped but I guess I will get better slowly.Do it sooner rather than later. I put it off and it got infected and I was soo sick! To the OP I have a lump under the spot where drain was and the top one of the 4 incisions The surgeron is seeing me next month and expects it to resolve on own.

I'm not on MSN since I am at work, but MAKE THE CALL!!!!! Sheesh.

Virgo, I hope it's not a hernia and that you mend quickly.

This is NOT a sign to keep your GB. Really, the surgery was a breeze. Even this problem isn't something that bothers me all day long... just if I do too much standing.

Add me to the MAKE THE CALL list. You'll be glad you did. And, man oh man, it is so much fun to eat anything you want again!!

Jas, I don't think I'm giving you my MSN username afterall. ;) Thankfully I didn't make it my DIS ID... :rotfl2: Yeah, I'll call. :scared:

I know how to track you down. You can run but ya can't hide (someone will give you up anyway). Did you call yet? Huh did ya?

Virgo, I'm glad you can eat once again!!! That really is the best.

Here's hoping for the hematoma! :thumbsup2

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

T&B,
Have I missed something? Are you having attacks?

Been there, done that. I had my gallbladder out in Mar and had the hernia repaired in Oct. Mine was a result of lifting my handicapped daughter (all 120 lbs of her) too soon after my surgery. The hernia repair surgery was not bad and believe me when I say that this time I listened to my doctor and haven't lifted my daughter since, much to the dismay of my husband and son who have had to do the lifting ;)

I did have a hemotoma after the hernia surgery and it did disolve in about 3 weeks. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it's just the hemotoma but in the meantime - NO heavy lifting!!!

Since I've had a couple people ask, I wanted to update after my consult with the surgeon yesterday...

The bottom line is that I'm having my gallbladder out this Wednesday. The surgeon, who I'll refer to as Dr Hunk :woohoo: , plans on doing the lap surgery and it should be a day thing. I was surprised that it will be so soon, but it will be less time for me to dread it (I'm the type of person who doesn't sleep when I'm worried, so the sooner the better).

Best of luck with that T&B. :)

My 26 yo DD is having hers out on the 18th of January. Laporoscopy (SP???). Outpatient. Was told that she could be back to work as a retail pharmacist within a week.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for both of you. :shamrock:
