Post Office problem- Packages "Vandalized"

As the seller, it's my job to get the item to the buyer. I don't believe I can shirk that responsibility just because I said "if you don't buy insurance, I'm not responsible" in my auction terms.
I agree. Exactly the point I was trying to make.

(I give up, how do you make something appear to be quoted?)

Steve --

What if you bought a breakable item on Ebay, did not pay for insurance, and it arrived broken, even though the seller packed it carefully. Maybe the seller did wrap the thing in bubble wrap, and did take necessary steps to ensure that it would arrive in one piece, but it didn't.

Who should be out the money? The seller can't resell the item, and the buyer can't use it.

On the bottom of the post you want to quote, just click the "quote" button. If you don't need everything int he post, as I didn't on yours...just delete the extra material between the quote commands. :)

No different in my mind. As tlbwriter said, it is the responsibility of the seller to get the item to the buyer as promised. If I shipped an item to a customer uninsured and it arrived damaged, I would refund the money upon receipt of some sort of proof of the damage. That's why I feel that insurance is to protect the seller not the buyer.

But what if the item is going to Canada? There IS no delivery confirmation and for low-priced items, Canadian buyers are not going to want to pay a lot more for express mail or whatever.

As a buyer more often than a seller, if I choose not to buy insurance and the seller can prove that they did SEND the item, I would NOT have the seller reimburse me. That is just my personal expectations. But I sell on an email loop, not Ebay anymore.

As a seller, I'd feel responsible for that, and I'd give a refund. I agree with DisneySteve that insurance protects the seller.
