You an use your KTTW card if open. Like everything else, cash-free zone.I just wanted to know if the post office on the island can be used - our last cruise it was closed.. if it is open can we use US currency??
Thanks for any info !!
Yes, that's the key phrase. "if open"if open

I thought it was also. Since it's not really part of DCL (it's a Bahamas post office). They must of change it. I haven’t been in the post office in over 10 years. It use to be money only.

From the DCL website:
U.S. currency is accepted at the post office. Unique to the island, however, is an innovative payment system where you can use your stateroom keys (or Key to the World card) as a form of payment at Disney-run stores, just as you would a credit card. Similarly, dining services on the island are included as part of your cruise package.
I don't believe there are year round residents there. There a few CMs that stay there, and I'm not sure how often they change them out, but I don't think they stay there all the time.Just out of curiosity, who staff the PO? The Bahamian postal service, I assumed. Are there year-round residents that use the PO on a regular basis?
LAX
That's pretty quick. I mailed 5 postcards once from Castaway Cay. 2 of them took just over a month to be received, 2 others - 7 weeks. The fifth one never did arrive (it's been 9 years now).Took just over 3 weeks to receive that postcard we sent.

I believe the post office is basically just a mail drop place, not a full on post office.
I believe it has been relegated to being just a photo op.We've been at CC 6 times and have never seen the post office open.

My understanding was that the post office is a tiny branch of the post office in Abaco Cay. All of the non-Disney employees who work on Castaway (hair branders, etc.) come in on a boat from Abaco when a ship is in.
Our last 3 visits to Castaway (the last March of this year) it was open. If shore time is earlier than normal or you are one of the first off, it may not be open yet. They only accept cash for stamps. Noticed the last visit, our card actually made it to us in record time (one of the cards sent is always to us as a reminder of our day at Castaway - think was 5 weeks after being there where we have seen many months previous visits for our cards to arrive).I believe it has been relegated to being just a photo op.
Each of the three times we were at CC and the post office was closed we checked periodically all day and it never opened. We just ignore it any more unless Olaf is in the porch. Our last 3 visits to Castaway (the last March of this year) it was open. Three of the four times we have been to CC the post office has been closed. Give your cards/mail to the folks at the Guest Services desk on your ship and they will mail them for you. We have given up on the island postal service.
