Back from 2 weeks in Canada and suffering the post holiday blues. Back to work and the politics have been in action in my absence.

To top it all off our 19 year old cat Tabitha fell ill over the holiday so she was taken to the vet yesterday and sadly she has to be put to sleep on Wednesday. The vet would have done it last night but with DD present that would have been impossible, so she gave her a pain killer and anti-biotic. DD has not stop crying since last night (she's 12, so Tabitha has always been there).

Sorry to hear about your cat. Your poor DD must be devastated.

The only cure for the post-holiday blues, I'm afraid, is to book and plan the next one ;)

Poor you, what a miserable return from holiday. Hope your daughter is ok. :grouphug:

Awww how sad :( Your poor Daughter.

Sorry to hear about your puddy cat :guilty:

As for post hol blues - Booking again is the only cure :teeth:

Wow, 19 years, that's a good life for a cat!

We definitely get over post holiday blues by planning the next disney vacation-it really works!

So sorry about your cat.

Nothing else beats the post holiday blues like booking another trip :flower:

Sorry to hear about your cat :grouphug:

Welcome back. I am sorry about your cat :(

It's not nice when you lose a pet that has been part of the family's life for so long. Hope you have lovely memories :grouphug:

Many thanks for all your kind remarks. Tabitha will be sadly missed, though there will be some reminders of her: clawed furniture and carpets etc.

We've already got our holiday booked for next year, and though we've just come back from Canada, eight months seems a long way away (even though we booked it 4 months ago).

:grouphug: We know how you must be feeling our cat took ill before our holiday in 2002 and after lots of tests we were told he had diabetes and it had really took it's toll on him. He had been with us from being 8 weeks old and was part of the family so we had to decide what to do.After much soul searching we felt that he was suffering, and it could have taken months of vets appointments etc to get him anywhere near back to normal, we decided that it would be best to have him put to sleep. He was 8 years old at the time and our son was two and a half and did not understand why the cat was acting strangely. I took the cat to the vet and it was difficult to explain that the cat would not be coming home when I returned. All the time I waited at the vet's I used to say my goodbyes to him. It broke my heart to do it but I believe it was the right thing to do. We all still miss him, me especially and it took a long time to adapt to not having him around doing things, no more head butting for attention or curling up beside me purring with happiness which I still miss very much.I remind my self that every day he had was a good one because he was a rescued cat, not a stray for long.Hopefully when the time is right we will have another cat but it will not replace him but will be very loved for being themselves. May be that's something to think about in the future for you guys too!! ;)
