Now that I’ve read that Discovery is going to be waiting on the launch pad when we are down there for our cruise I’m especially interested in visiting the space center after our cruise (we don’t have time prior).

Does DCL have a post-cruise excursion for this type of thing?

Also, we have already booked the roundtrip DCL transfers. What time do they leave the port to head back to WDW (we’re headed to WL for one night in order to delay reality as long as possible)?

If it turns out that we have to get a rental car and forgo the DCL transfers back to WDW, has anyone had any experience with getting a refund on half of a prepaid round trip for being a dingbat like me? :)

All advice welcome!

I don't think DCL offers any kind of KSC excursion in Cape Canaveral.

IMHO I would definitely forego the DCL transfers but don't know about the refund issue ... get a rental car (Budget is easy to work with) and drive yourself up to KSC, spend the day there, then drive into Orlando at your leisure.

I would HIGHLY recommend though that you go to the KSC website and purchase your admission IN ADVANCE along with any special tours that you want to take. If Discovery will be on the launch pad, it is conceivable that admission & tours will sell out FAST.

We did the 7 day cruise and decided to spend a night in a hotel at port to catch a flight the next day. We tried to do the space center the day we returned. It was miserable---I just say this as devil's advocate. We were soooooo exhausted with the fun-filled week and up late packing that all I wanted to do was lay down and take a nap. Unfortunately, we couldn't get into our hotel room until 3 or so, so we basically ended up going to the space center. We sat through a couple things for the kids and then got on the bus that goes around the center. I don't think we ever got off. We just stayed on and watched the video and saw things from a distance.

It wasn't a waste of money, but it wasn't what it could have been under other circumstances. I'm not saying don't do it, just be prepared and maybe get a really good night's sleep the night before.

I would second that comment. Definitely go to KSC, especially if you haven't been there before. It is worth the trip. Also, it is a good idea to buy tickets in advance, because the ticket line was really long when we went there. And it can get hot in Florida waiting in line.

If you do go, make sure you take time to do the hands on things in the education section. My whole family did not enjoy the bus tour, but all enjoyed the visitors center and hands on stuff.
