Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

My thinking is that on any other US airline, there are already posters that have grappled with the same question. I'm sure we've talked about it before. Many of those posters aren't going to come into this thread. PP would get a wider range of thoughts and previous experiences. The SW part is irrelevant to their question. If they posted the question without mentioning a specific airline, it shouldn't cause any confusion. This is also assuming that PP is not planning on purchasing Basic.
I'd agree with you if SWA was already on assigned seating, had been on assigned seating for a long enough time for people to have flown them enough to get an idea because then they could compare both with their own experiences on other airlines and own experiences with SWA. As is we're in a limbo land here. So all I'm saying is I could see confusion cropping up by trying to create a new thread. Ultimately the PP is just asking too early as we don't have the details on how SWA will be handling it, when it will become effective, etc but when this information is released I don't think they would be asking on the wrong thread either. Obviously YMMV here but I'm just anticipating more confusion by trying to asking people on a new thread about something no one has experienced with a specific airline yet.

It's an airline agnostic question if the PP is planning on paying for seats. It doesn't matter if it's a Delta 737, AA 737, UA 737 or SW 737. If they are going to be buying WGA+ or above for the flight in June, it's the same as buying MC on any of those three.

We don't know yet how SWA is going to handle families. Nor do we know anything about it. This is sorta silly to debate about. You think the PP is wrong for asking on this thread, I disagree. I just think they are asking too early. A new thread or not they are still asking too early because no one has any experience with how SWA will handle it and SWA doesn't have any experience either as they've never had assigned seating. Agree to disagree here at this point.

What policies do you think SW will have for "families" that could change the advice that could be gleaned from others where assigned seating has been in place for decades?
I don't think PP is wrong for asking in this thread. I think that they would receive more and probably better advice from many on these forums that don't frequent this thread.

Why are we debating this goodness gracious. I already stated in my prior comment some block out seats for families others don't in the system. The ages of the kids might be pretty important or might not be. We simply don't know. Moving on in the conversation here.

Companion pass ?

I should be receiving a promotional companion pass effective 8-7 from the March promotion. I want to be able to fly 8-7 with my companion. I have my seat booked. I also booked my companion their seat, using points. Can I just call the morning on 8-7 and have their ticket switched to a companion seat. Or do I need to cancel and rebook. My flight leaves at 12:30. Would I be able to see the option to add my companion at 12:01 am on 8-7.

Has anyone ever added a lap child on the companion seat at the airport?
I received another promotional email today about for the companion pass for the fall. It’s hard to make plans with these since you can not see if the flights are full in the future to be able to use.

Call, if you try to do it yourself online there is a small but non-zero chance that someone else books that seat while you're in process. When you call in they can block the seat while doing the transaction.

Thanks, should I tell them that I already have one booked, is that the one they will be blocking when I cancel it?
