Can someone better versed in the changes help me with this? Our flight which was booked with points before 5/28 has gone down 2000 points for Wanna Get Away Plus. If it worth it to make this change or do the new fare rules mean it would be better to just keep the original flight? If I understand correctly, the 2000 points would expire in a year?
Points don't expire. The taxes and fees credit will expire, and you will be bound by the new rules. If you're not planning to check bags or have another method to get them without paying, it would make sense. If you're checking bags, the $35 for the first bag is much more than the $24 in value of the points.

Points are not subject to expiration: they would just be redeposited. Big question is the bag cost: do you need to have free checked bags and, if so, are you A list or a rapid rewards credit card holder?

It looks like our return trip that we paid with cash went down slightly as well for Wanna Get Away Plus, so if we don't intend to check bags, it seems the biggest difference is if we then canceled the changed (lower priced) flight, that travel credit would expire 12 months later, correct? Whereas if we cancel our current flight booked before 5/28, that travel credit would not expire.

Thanks for the help. I thought I understood the changes, but appreciate verification that I hopefully have this right.

This may have been asked previously and I missed it...

If I am a SW CC holder and I book on points, will I get a free checked bag? Or does the flight need to be paid for with my CC to get the free checked bag?

You will not have to pay for the first bag regardless if you booked using points, a credit card or voucher.

If you open a SW credit card for the free first checked bag, are you charged $35 or $45 for the second checked bag?

My experience with Delta and American is they charge $45 for the second bag when there is one free bag for those who have a credit card
