Do you think it’s worth upgrading your Southwest credit card to the top level that allows you to pick your seats at the time of booking. It would only be an additional $50.00 a year for me and I would receive a $75.00 Southwest credit and 7500, rather than 6000 points every year. We normally book on points so getting A Preferred status is never going to happen.

late summer travelers check your flights...surprisingly mine dropped 30k points over the weekend. My return flight is down to 4200 points. Knowing my luck I really figured I'd see a big drop after the 5/28 changes.

If yes then upgrade.
If no then I would close the account and reapply to pick up a welcome offer

Not personal ones.
You can have a business one and a personal one though. This is how a lot of people qualify for the companion pass by opening both for the sign up bonuses.

Keep an eye out for upgrades through the southwest app. I originally had the middle card and got an offer through the app to upgrade to the priority card and got a a new signup bonus. It changed my middle card to the higher one, not just opened a new card.

I just bought Southwest tickets for October 13th. Should I get early bird? Will assigned seating be by then? I have the priority card and have already used the upgraded boarding benefit but I know it should pay for assigned seating?

It will not be assigned seating: October will still be A/B/C boarding. So, if you want early bird, you'll have to purchase it.

Then it shows Was -5,000 points Now 0 points

Same thing is happening to me today. Mine is 500 points less than we paid, but it shows 0 when I try to modify it. The ticket is actually in DH’s name (I’m his companion) so I’m not sure if I can call SWA to have it modified. He probably won’t call himself.

You can call, you need his name, DoB, address, and RR number. I make calls for both of us all the time.

Realizing no one commented about the most recent fare drop, but it was only for a couple of weeks of flights.

Next drop isn't until July 29th for flights through March 4. What do we think the chances are that drop is the start of reserved seating flights?

That's the reason I'm considering changing my vacation date for flying from 1/28 to 1/26. January 26th just became available and it seems that there are no reserved seats yet for that date (I don't look forward to reserved seats). But I have a feeling that the 28th will be reserved seating.

I'm flying in October with my adult daughter who decided to join me about 2 months after I bought my ticket. I opted to purchase the WGA+ fare with EBCI since I really need an aisle seat near the front of the plane due to my anxiety/claustrophobia. She is flying on a budget so she bought the WGA fare and doesn't really care where she sits, but obviously, we'd like to sit together. She plans to check in right at the T-24 mark but she is still planning on getting a High-B, maybe even low-C assignment. Has anyone ever encountered a problem with someone "saving" a middle seat??? I plan to board and sit in an aisle seat within the first 5-6 rows, but do you think that saving the middle seat will be an issue? Would anyone really say, "I WANT that middle seat??" I could see if there are 2 people that want the window/middle, but I would specifically target a row with an occupied window seat and ask if the person in the window seat is waiting for someone and then explain my situation. Does this sound reasonable, or am I being too entitled? I figure my daughter is going to end up in a middle seat anyways so I might as well try to save the one next to me. Since it is the only nonstop flight of the day, I assume that it will be completely full.

Alot of people want the first few rows if they have a tight connection even if in the middle seat. Buying early bird does not always get you a position in the A group anymore to get near the front of the plane. You can say you are saving the seat, but anyone is entitled to ignore and say I want the seat.
One good thing about assigned seating next year, no more seat savers.

Since you'll be near the front of the plane, it might be a problem saving the seat in my experience. We pre board (I'm among the few who is legitametely wheelchair bound). Lots of people will take a middle seat if it's near the exit in front, perhaps if they have a tight connection

In general the front and exit rows are just really not the best to attempt to save and it puts a lot of pressure on the passengers to bypass when really they don't have to. It's not the middle seat that is the issue it's where you are hoping to do it in terms of the location of the plane.

I have seen on one off occasions the very first row have a middle seat available later on in boarding but because you cannot put anything in front of you and all your belongings must go in the overhead bin you really can't count on that if you've got personal items and carry on as the overhead bin space could be taken. And as the boarding process gets towards the later half the FAs often stress to take the first available seat.

Another poster does bring up a good point about you purchasing WGA+ and EBCI, you're technically the second to last priority of pre-assigned Boarding Positions so you yourself need to prepare that you may be in a lower than you'd want boarding position which may mean you don't have the front of the plane to choose from much less worry about 2 of those seats being available.

Keep in mind that there can be passengers that are already on the plane prior to you boarding as they could be on the previous leg of the plane.
