Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

I have a 50.00 LUV voucher that I would like to change to a travel credit. If I plan on using for myself will I be ok with just booking a WGA fare. It's hard to find a low fare to do this with as I don't want to put a lot on credit card. Is their a route combination that works for a low amount like this. I normally book on points rather than cash.

I want to book a round trip for three people. Two of us have enough rapid rewards points to cover ourselves but I need to pay cash for the third person (a child). Can I do this on one reservation or do I need to do a separate reservation for each of us?

You can't put cash on the same reservation as points.

I'd probably book everyone on points outbound, then split the way back with one adult on points, adult with kid on cash. Then you only have to deal with two different confirm numbers on one leg.

Thank you. That's a good suggestion.

Yes, if you are planning to use the TF for yourself, booking a WGA fare is going to be just fine. Look at Intra HI, Intra CA or Intra TX routes to limit how much CC outlay you have. I think the cheapest fares I've seen in the last two years was $49 plus taxes and fees so about $65 total.

Got this push notification to my phone just now:

ENDS WEDNESDAY
Wanna bring a friend for free* every time you fly?
Here’s how:

1. Register now, then purchase one round
trip or two one-way flights by 4/5.
2. Travel by 5/24.
3. Companion flies free* with you 8/15-9/30/2023.
Not valid on flights purchased with Rapid Rewards® points.

More info: https://www.southwest.com/loyalty/myaccount/promotion-detail.html?id=2-4NNPQ7IF&cbid=7855063
Thank you for sharing!! I would have totally missed this and it might be actually super helpful for some upcoming travel plans. :goodvibes

Me again with a Q about the promotional companion pass offer that hopefully a DISer can answer. 🙃

It says:

Emphasis mine. Does that refer to the initial flight booked between now and 5/24, the flight taken between 8/15-9/30/2023, or both?

Should I just call SW and ask lol?

Twitter over calling would be my suggestion.

Also note, any flights you already have booked before you register don’t count towards that companion pass.

The fights you book & take in the qualifying period have to be cash, not RR points. You will be able to use RR points later when you travel with the companion in August/ September.

From the fine print:

“A qualifying one-way flight for this promotion is a one-way revenue flight on Southwest Airlines from an origin city to a destination city, including any intermediate stops and/or connections on Southwest Airlines. A qualifying round trip flight for this promotion is a round trip revenue flight on Southwest Airlines from an origin city to a destination city and back to the originating airport or carrier-recognized co-terminal. Valid on new reservations booked within the Promotion Period only. Travel booked or flown prior to registration for this promotion is not eligible for this promotional Companion Pass offer. Companion Pass, charter flights, reward and group travel, and Southwest Vacations® packages do not qualify as one-way or round trip revenue flights for this promotion. Changes made to any itinerary after purchase of a one-way or round trip revenue flight may eliminate qualification for this promotion.”

I doubt flights booked on points will count. They never count towards any other promo as far as I can remember.
No, already booked flights don’t count and if someone is thinking of canceling their flights and rebooking you can’t use points must be booked with money/card...also be careful and check because most flights between now and 5/24 have gone up in price so it might not be worth rebooking.

Thank you!

I initially booked flights during that time period with RR points, but the Companion Pass is worth switching to a cash fare and using those points in August / September. :goodvibes

Did you get an answer from SW about this? I posed the question on FlyerTalk and they are split. There is a SW manager that posts over there, hoping to get an answer direct from them.

quick question - what does it mean again when my booked flight is showing "unavailable"? That's its probably 100% booked and not on the verge of being cancelled/rescheduled, right?

I feel like I have PTSD from all the cancellations during the "covid years"..

How far out is this flight? If it’s within the next week or so, it’s probably sold out. If it’s months away, it might be they are preparing to make schedule changes. Might be they’re deleting that flight, might be they’re deleting other flights & need to move people to that one, so they hold the seats until everyone from the affected flight are rebooked. Then they open it back up for booking.

I'll add sometimes they are just making a change to the start time to that flight too.

AND since I posted this question this morning, some of the flights on another flight that were showing as Unavailable are now available...

BUT my flights are the 7:20am nonstop which is still all Unavailable - but here's hoping they're just sold out - which I'll totally take....vs. them pondering cancelling/changing the flight all together..
