Ok, I'll go OT, too!

I have a friend who likes to make subtly nasty comments about my working, saying I just do it so we can go on "fancy" vacations -- Ok, our typical vacation is less than 5% of my income, and we don't bank 95% of my paycheck (My friend thinks we should live on dh's income, we would not be comfortable or happy that way). My earnings actually go to pesky things she doesn't have like retirement, college savings, oh and that one item she also does not have to worry about -- the mortgage! I'm not even mentioning utilities, heating oil, school tuition, the list goes on and on...

My point, and I do have one, is that she thinks we spend a small fortune on our vacations. The truth is, it is not a fortune to us or we would not do it. I will not go on a trip I cannot pay for. It really is all relative. She's happy with a family campout once a year, I would consider that a punishment rather than a vacation...

The Disney AAA rate is awesome, and more than pays for the cost of our membership -- not to mention the other benefits. I am ever so glad the AAA rates are here!

This is too funny. I guess it was my post that got this debate started...which has been debated about tons of times on the boards. But it's funny when I read the person's post starting the debate they always start out by saying "I don't want to start anything by asking this but why would anyone pay for a deluxe......" It's always guaranteed to start a debate. Anyhows....

The funniest thing is we all know the answer....its' one's personal choice.

Yes you will have people staying at Deluxes that can't really afford it but still do...you will have people who stay there that can afford it....etc. Each person/family's situation is different....I could keep going on but I think everyone gets the point...there are tons of reasons why somone would spend money on a deluxe and why someone wouldn't....we all know this.

So the reason I decide to stay at the Contemporary in the Tower is this (even though I know I don't have to justify staying there):

We love it there....

I have a teenager now and it gives him some freedom to roam around himself for a bit. I also have a baby and the monorail (my personal preference) is alot easier for my family, especially with strollers bags etc. Coming home late at night, I'm back in my room in no time. The rooms are bigger square foot wise and gives us more space especially with a porta crib. When I go on vacation, I like to indulge a little. It's less than going to the Jersey Shore (which we go to 2x a summer because we love it there too).

And more importantly on our last trip, we brought my mom along who has early onset alzheimer's disease and being right on property like that with the monorail allowed my husband to take the kids to the park while I waited for my mom to get ready which usually took way over 2 hours because of her disease and the unfamiliarity of being away.

And did I say we absolutely LOVE it there.

Sooooo.....lesson here is this....don't just ASSUME....or make comments about paying alot of money on something that you wouldn't pay for and make comments like "it is ridiculous" and not expect people to be offended......because everyone's situation is different, everyone's like and dislikes are different....and that's how it should be.

Anyhows.....happy planning everyone....hope everyone gets some great discounts!

I think I understand now, some people are buying "happiness".

Come again? And you were only 'putting a name on a price for a room'?

Yes, I buy part of my happiness. I literally buy part of my health and it is making me very happy with a higher quality of life. And no it's not "happiness" it is pure happiness.

This year we'll be staying at a mod (CBR) and we will love it. Been there before, so know what to expect. Next year I'll be cruising and doing WDW, probably with a deluxe stay only. A night or 2 at the Poly as it fills my needs for those days on that trip. An easy entrence to the MK, specific TS restaurants within the resort, the beach and the amazing view. It is worth it to me for those days of relaxing at the resort.

The rest of my days will probably end up at a dvc on rented points. You know, the thing cheaper than or about the same price as rack rate at a Value.

I'm on a fixed income which can easily be called a low income. And you know what? I've learned to live my life the way I see fit. I very happily safe money to be able to live my dreams. And yes, travelling is a big part of that for me. Life can be over tomorrow, so I don't do the "one day, if I'm rich/after retiring/whatever", but I do it now. Low budget, high budget, I really do not give a damn. As long as I can afford it and know it fits my standard of 'special trip', I'm doing it.

And you know what? Living my life this way makes me a happy person. Not because of the monetairy value of something but because of the meaning behind it. If that makes me one that is buying "happiness", wel so be it.

Hey Everyone....

Just in case anyone was looking for the Contemporary with a AAA rate....this is what I know about the AAA rates so far from my research.

They are only offerring AAA rates on the Wing Building and the Magic Kingdom View rooms, not the Bay View Rooms.

They are also offerring AAA rates for the Grand Floridian and Polynesian also because they gave me alternate pricing for those also.

Hope that helps out someone....happy planning....

I booked my ressie at the POP this morning. I booked it with a AAA rate. Jan 21-25 in a preferred room for 2 adults 2 kids for $371 including tax.

There was a standard room for $313 including tax.
WL and AKL standard rooms for $910 including tax.
CBR standard room for $532
POR water view was $636
POFQ was sold out

whoa! umm, o:wizard: okay, you better go take your blood pressure............You stay whereever you want goofie, your happy, very happy, I get it, your the happiest person on this earth.......the CBR is lovely, been there and loved it too, everything is okay, deep breath sweetie. If you were my patient in the hospital, we would be ordering a psyche eval with a sedative at this point............

Just recieved AAA rates for 8 nites at ASMusic family suite ,park hopper w QS dining $4780.32 USD
w plus dining $5oo4.32 USD
2 rooms ASm ,park hopper w QS $4495.52
w plus dining $4719.52
Through Disney ASM Family suite w plus dining and park hopper was $5400.34 taxes inc
QS dining $5176.34 taxes inc
My Question is this, are the AAA rates taxes included? I didnt get home in time to call the AAA TA to ask this, Im just assuming they are as all the quotes we recieved so far have been and all are less than Disney has quoted, surprise surprise...If anyone could shed some light on AAA and tax Id love to know.
The prices quoted WERE tax included.I think we're going with Pop Cent. for 8 nites ,preffered room, plus dining plan and park hopper pass no water park for 2 adults and 4 children 9,6, 6, and 6 for $4963.73 AAA rate. The preffered room is a little more money but Id rather walk in the parks than at the hotel, haha.Originally we p[lanned on doing the new QS plan which was about $224 less but somehow I got talked out of being cheap by the TA ....

Brentalex is 100% right,I asked the TA this and wether we'd still be eligable for any future discounts if they became available and what she told me was this, basically all CAA/AAA does is work on commision from Disney for the booking part ,its still very much a Disney reservation and works exactly as if you had booked the reservation through Disney directly. All in all a pretty good deal for a $75 investment.

Wow! WTH happened to this thread while I was away? Anyway, does anyone know what the actual discount % is for AAA. I think last year there was a listing somewhere that gave the % off for the different seasons and resort categories.

Can't we all just get along?:confused3 Please, before the mods shut down the thread for fighting. I wanted to add 2 smileys fighting, but we don't have one.;)

This is from AAA's on-line brochure for 2008:
Value & Moderate, Value season: 20%; Regular season: 15%; Peak & Summer season: 10%
Deluxe Villas, Value 20%; Regular 15%; Peak 10%
Deluxe & Ft. Wilderness, Value 15%; Regular 10%; Peak 10%
Swan & Dolphin, 35% all year
Ft. Wilderness campsites, Value 20%, Regular 15%, Peak 10%
No discount at all during Holiday weeks 12/19-12/31.

I'd assume that the discounts will be similar for this year; I got 20% off a moderate during Value season.

I booked my room through WDW with the AAA....should I have called AAA directly for a bigger discount or are they the same discount??

Thanks, snykymom. I read somewhere from another Dis'r that the % wasn't matching with last year's brochure. I hope it is still the same. I'd hate to have it be less this year.
