This is my first completed and posted trip report so please excuse me!

Here we go… we arrived at the Sequoia Lodge late afternoon after a good drive down from Calais and despite catching the morning rush hour traffic at Guildford, managing to get on Euro Tunnel an hour earlier than booked. It had just started to drizzle as we got out of the car but we were excited to see inside the hotel which we’d not stayed in before. We now only have the DLH to go!

We immediately liked what we saw – the hotel seems very calm and spacious in its communal areas. We had booked a Montana room and our lovely check in CM upgraded us to a lakeside view. We were also offered a breakfast in the park for Saturday.

Our room was on the fourth floor with a great view from the window looking straight down the park-side path down to the lake. In the picture our room has DH at the open window.

We could see the Tower of Terror across the lake as well as the Panoramagique balloon and through a fortuitous gap in the trees, the top of Sleeping Beauty’s castle. We even watched Dreams from our room on Saturday night although it did help that we knew the sequence well. We loved the subtle Bambi theming in the room and it was nice having a window that opened wide although we had to keep an eye on our son, Oliver, who liked to open it and lean out. I don’t think it would be a safety issue for young children as the window is probably too high for them to do this but Oliver is fully grown just with the mental age of a toddler.

Breakfast was very civilised especially as we were given VIP breakfast passes. The fresh fruit salad was lovely with lots of melon and pineapple as well as apple and grapes. The orange juice was fine – I am sure it was watered down when we stayed at the Cheyenne in the summer! I still wish Disney offered a muesli option amongst the cereals but I must just remember to take some with me next time. Other guests seemed happy and polite too.

The character area was so much easier to access than the other hotels we have stayed in. The CMs accompanying the characters were wonderfully friendly too and always called DS over and helped him.

This first photo is not brilliant - I should have used the flash - but I love Oliver's smile.

It was definitely the friendliest hotel we have stayed in and the walk to the village was short and flat. You may consider all the routes flat but you wouldn’t think that if you had to drag my son back across the bridge to the NBC after a long day in the park! I quite understand why so many people here love the SL as we have been totally converted. I am so glad we are staying at the SL again for the Christmas season.

We went into the park as soon as possible and whilst the ground was still wet the skies were brightening and everything looked sparkling.

Stepping through the turnstile into the park and hearing the music the excitement hit me like it does every time and I wanted to break into a dance! Fortunately I didn’t partly because the parade was just coming down into Town Square which heightened the excitement but restricted movement. So we stayed to watch that then headed up Main Street towards the castle feeling buoyant and enjoying all the decorations already out.

Oliver loves ALL cast members, not just characters and he will often rush up and grab a street sweeper or parade attendant for a posed photo!

Oliver’s first ride choice is always Snow White so we went and did that. Lovely to see the little cart of jewels rolling down its rails from the mine at last – it hasn’t worked all year as far as I remember. Second ride is usually POTC so we headed off there.

Oliver’s favourite CMs are undoubtedly the pirates and many recognise him from previous visits and play along with his “Ah- harrrs” and pirate salutes.

We bought the Tinkerbelle pirate pin that Marine is wearing on her hat in this photo:

We did some other favourite rides including the Molly Brown riverboat and discovered Phantom Manor was shut for maintenance. We weren’t bothered by the closure as we knew it would be open in a day or two. Oliver’s two other favourite groups of CMs are those from the Molly Brown and the railroad crew. He has an obsession with anything that goes round and round (bet I am the only person on here who has spent an entire channel ferry crossing on the top deck watching the radar go round with an ever more animated human version alongside!) Anyway, a member of the Molly Brown crew usually does this little mime with both hands going round each other as part of the docking guidance. Oliver adores this. For me the ride is a chance to sit down and have a little relaxation.

Here is Oliver on the first evening in Frontierland (the only time we wore coats):

We were thrilled by the Halloween decorations. So much detail goes into these and there was far more to see than last year. I think my favourites were the little lanterns strung around the place and Oliver liked spotting the black cats.

More to come in part 2...

Just want to say I loved your trip report... The main thing I noticed was what an amazing son you have! So full of spirit and happiness! He seems to be enjoying every fine detail.

What gets to me and my OH the most is we take the children and they dont notice the tiny details and often walk round sulking about not being bought something or feeling tired, hot or cold etc. Oliver looks so happy and must have made the whole trip magical!

I agree with the Sequioa, Id read all the good reports and couldnt quite figure out if I was going to enjoy it there but when we pulled into the car park in July we were in love within minutes. We were initially in a lodge (closest lodge to hotel) and whilst there were no major issues with the room my OH got bitten several times by a mosquito in the night and couldnt spend another night in the room as we could hear them squaking away! We spoke to customer relations who moved our room, which to our delight was the room next to the character meet and greet almost underneath yours on photo!

September sounds like a great time to visit, July was crazily busy - despite us going again at NY I think in the future we will avoid the major holidays!

Looking forward to seeing more!!!

Welcome back Oliver. It looks like you had a magical time and it is so nice to read your trip report. I love the photos with the CM's. I can't wait for part 2.

Wow! What amazing photos!!! You can see the happiness shining out! :goodvibes

I love that you have so many with the CMs too! :grouphug:

The Halloween decorations look fab - really hope it's as good next year!

I loved the SL too, I have stayed there twice now and I think it was the best for characters in our experience. I will be taking DH there at some point on our next trip (we are staying at HNY) to show him what it's like, as he loves HNY.

Can't wait for more...

Thanks for all the replies. Oliver is incredibly happy when he is at Disneyland which is why we go as often as possible. It is all completely real for him and back home he loves to look through his large collection of Disneyland albums reliving it and playing with his enormous collection of Disney plush.

mum2threemonsters, you are absolutely right about Oliver appreciating the detail. He can say very little but he notices so much and points out everything from the buckles on the pirates boots to the different stone birds on the pillars at the back of the castle. We are quite blessed in some ways with him.

Perhaps your "monsters" are simply going through a stage that will blossom into a more appreciative view :). Oliver is third of four and with the youngest an independent six-former, we are lucky to get one proper family Disney trip a year now. The teen is really only interested in the big rides but the older ones (both girls) have come back to enjoy the detail and atmosphere of the parks.

It is nice to know that the SL took your problem with the mosquitos seriously and did something about it. September is great if you can go in term time but go mid-week - weekends are heaving!

I hope to get part two up tonight... :wave2:

I had tears in my eyes reading your TR (part 1) and seeing the photos of Oliver with the CMs. He just looks like he is having an amazing time - so happy and the CMs seem to be amazing with him too which is just gorgeous :grouphug:.

It is so lovely to hear that Oliver picks up on so many things - love that he likes the pirate: so much too!

My favourite photo (non CM - as I couldn't pick one of those out!) is the one of Oliver touching the ghost lady's hat outside of Harringtons :flower3:.

I agree September is a fabulous time to go - went end September a few years ago now (before DD1 started school) and it was amazing. Wish we could go again at that time but alas, 2 children in school now.

I hope my two girls continue to do Disney with us for many years and start to appreciate the detail like your girls :thumbsup2.

Your TR really makes me want to stay at the SL. We've been lucky enough to always stay at the DLH (and are in again Nov due to location for girls in case it is cold) BUT, next trip (if there is one next year?) I'm booking SL :thumbsup2.

Can't wait to read part 2....

I've just smiled all the way through that Cherry :goodvibes

What a wonderful lad you've got there. He radiates happiness and you can tell that it's catchy as all the CMs are so pleased to see him.

Wonderful :goodvibes

Good luck, I expect you will get to the SL before we stay at the DLH, we've made the decision to go for quantity over quality for the time being!

Erm, Nikki... that's because I've never got one to "publication" stage before! :rotfl:

Thank you :goodvibes So how many cats have you spotted so far?

You guys will love SL for the Christmas holidays. We went with mum quite a few years back and the Sequoia is so lovely at Christmas.
Looks like Oliver had so much fun. I might just have to convince mum for Christmas... Don't know if it'll work though. Big hug to you all.
