I'm hoping to get some information. There's a very good chance that my husband will be transferred to Charlotte, NC. We've done an online search in Charlotte and the surrounding towns and counties. Very impressed at whats in the real estate listings. Looking to keep the kids happy with the schools, and after school activities. We're also hoping to find a youth hockey league. I'd really appreciate anything.

Thanks in advance.

might want to move to Maybery, and say hi to Goober for us ;)

Jason, you are toooooo funny.

My DH and I looked at Charlotte before moving to NH. The real estate prices are very nice, we did not look into schools as we have no kid at home. I wish you all the best with your move, it is a very pretty area, southerners are quite nice, and you will love the weather for the most part.

HI! We live in Rock Hill, SC. It is actually about 20 miles south of Charlotte, right across the border. Not too far .. lots of people (including me) commute daily to Charlotte.

We like it because it is smaller than Charlotte, better real estate prices, school system is great, lots of entertainment (sports, arts, theatres, etc) right in Charlotte.

Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck in your decision.

(Oh ... and only 8 hours away from the mouse! :) )

We love living in Charlotte! Is your DH in banking? (or NASCAR?:p) If you want to e-mail me, feel free (jepillar@bellsouth.net). We have one in Kindergarten in CMS(Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools) and have been happy with that for the most part. CMS can be VERY confusing though. I don't know about the youth hockey though. Hockey isn't real popular around here, although we do have a minor league team. How old are your kids? I have a friend who plays hockey in a women's league, I know some teens play on her squad. I'll be happy to help in any way I can. I think you'll like the weather, we were in the 40's today and everyone is complaining how cold it is!

My company is moving a bunch of folks to Charlotte, I don't know yet if I will be one of them. Keep the information coming!!!

thanks.

We live 20 miles north of Charlotte. We're near the university and interstate but have the benefit of more stable schools, lower taxes and lower real estate prices. Although my dh and I both work in Concord, many of my neighbors commute to Charlotte.

Youth hockey is not big here. I've only known one local kid who played youth hockey in the 17 years we've lived here and he did it in another suburb, Pineville. No idea how big the program is or anything like that.

If you move to the South, your children might want to look at other after-school activities b/c hockey is not likely to be the way to make friends at school and in the neighborhood or to develop the skills needed to make a high school team. There's no shortage of youth leagues -- there's plenty of soccer, baseball and softball, basketball and football and small amounts of lacrosse. Where we live, swim teams are very, very big and a lot of kids compete year round.

If you decide to look at Cabarrus County (Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis, mainly), I'll be happy to answer any questions you have -- just e-mail me.
