The Polynesian! I know, I know.....We have 7 nights booked in mid Jan in a standard studio. Just DH and I. It may actually be just me if DH can't get away from work that week. We are DVC owners and have stayed several times at every resort except GF, The Poly and WL. I don't know exactly why I'm not feeling it. We visit the Poly every trip for 'Ohana, Kona café, even Captain Cooks and Trader Sam's and love the feeling there. I am a little concerned about transportation to the other parks, we visit Epcot a lot. Also a little worried we may get a bad room view since we are standard view and will be checking in late. We spend a lot of time on our balcony or patio so this is kind of important. Can anyone help me get excited for a winter week at the Poly? Tips for middle aged adults, transportation, anything really?

Loved our last stay at the Polynesian! We were also in a Standard Studio. The studios at the Polynesian have wonderful theming and beautiful decor. I felt like I was on a tropical vacation! The two bathrooms mean lots of space to get ready in the morning! Call and put in a request for the Tokelau building. All rooms in this building are standard view and all have beautiful pool or garden views. It is also the closest DVC building to the Great Ceremonial House for restaurants/shops. All DVC buildings are also just a quick walk to the TTC. You can hop right onto the monorail to Epcot from there.

We'll likely be staying there at the end of January in a standard room. I've only visited there, never stayed and was really impressed with the feel and themeing. For the transportation to Epcot, should be quite easy. A bus of course, or walk to the TTC and hop the monorail. I wouldn't think that would be too much of an issue.

With the occasional rope drop/pre-rope drop problem, transport to Epcot from the Poly is quite good. From any DVC longhouse, it's 5-10 minutes walk to the TTC for the Epcot monorail, and the speed variable is depending on which longhouse and how fast you walk and how many lizards you stop to say "hi" to as you walk. Fastest walk is Pago Pago, because it is RIGHT THERE.

There are very few bad room views in the DVC studios. Moorea is a good request if you want to hedge bets; all SV studios in Moorea view plants/garden.

There is no bus to Epcot from the Poly, save PPO or if the monorail is down.

Really? Well, that's surprising. Does that mean there isn't a MK bus either? I figured they'd have both bus and monorail.

Correct, no bus to MK either. There's monorail and boat.

Good to know, thanks! So monorail is the only way to get to Epcot? Hearing stories of the monorail going down that's a bit concerning...

Yes. The best way for Epcot is to walk to the TTC and catch the monorail directly. If you take the resort monorail, you have to go through the entire loop before transferring. If the monorail is down, there is usually a bus from the TTC, and confusion at the Poly.

At least I won't be one of those confused now LOL. We'd definitely walk to the TTC for Epcot rather than the resort monorail.
