... but if an owner of a DVC contract at AKV or VWL were to purchase 25 points at BLT... would they then get the 11 month window at both resorts with full use of ALL combined points?

Example:

We just purchased 160 AKV points... but my wife also wants to stay at BLT at times. If we purchased 25 BLT points... would we then be able to book at BLT with teh 11 month window and use all 185 yearly points at BLT or... does DVC separate those points and we could book 25 points at 11 months at BLT and then have to book at 7 months at BLT for the remainder of the trip?

That's probably not written the best way, but it's early... and I'm just curious.

Thanks!

Home Resort Priority information from the member website:
If you have more than one Home Resort:
In order to take advantage of the Home Resort Priority Period, all Vacation Points used to make that reservation must be associated with your Home Resort.

An example of Home Resort Priority:
If, say, you want to make a reservation at Disney's Vero Beach Resort that requires 100 Vacation Points but you have 200 Vacation Points at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resorts & Spa and 50 Vacation Points at Disney's Vero Beach Resort, you don't have enough "Vero Beach" Vacation Points to qualify for the Home Resort Priority Period. However, as a Disney Vacation Club Member, you do have the options to:

  • Use your 200 "Saratoga Springs" Vacation Points to book a vacation during the Home Resort Priority Period at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, or
  • Borrow "Vero Beach" Vacation Points to secure your reservation during the Home Resort Priority Period for Disney's Vero Beach Resort.

Makes sense and that's what I figured... thanks for posting it. I don't yet have access to the member website.

yep - the 25 BLT pts are only good for booking BLT at 11 months out.

what some people do is buy a small contract of 50 pts or so and use banking and borrowing to use 100 pts (50 banked+50 current) every other year or 150 pts (50 banked+50 current+50 borrowed) every third year to get the 11 month booking window at that home resort.

Unfortunately this is why I still don't understand adding on at a different resort. If all the points really can't be used until the 7 month mark why bother just add on to your home resort and go from there. The banking and borrowing scenario would take some serious planning though......

If you had a 160 contract at BWV and a 160 contract at VWL, that's 160 that can be used at BWV or VWL at 11 months. if you bank the 160 VWL points, you could book VWL next year using 320 points at 11 months.

That's true, but if you banked and then had 320 points available at a resort (let's say BWV), but booked a resservation for 308 points, you'd have 12 points that would not be used, and would have to be banked to the next year. You'd have to use them that next year, even though you'd be staying at a VWL, so you'd either have to use them at the 7 mo. window, transfer them to someone else, or lose them. I think that's where it gets complicated. Not that it can't be done, but that's why we added on where we originally purchased.

If you own at two resorts, say resorts A and B then you can use all of resort A's points at 11 months to book at resort A and all of resort B's points at 11 months to book at resort B. It's not that all points can't be used until the 7 month mark.

The benefit of home resorts is to be able to book at 11 months. As the DVC Membership grows, booking at 7 months will become more competitive. Owning at your favorite resorts is the only guaranteed way to get the type room you want, when you want it.

And to add to what you said, some own two different resorts for different times and trips. Some want to visit, say, VWL in December but BCV in the summer.

Owning at both allows for the 11 month booking advantage for each of the trips at the resorts of choice.

:thumbsup2 That's why we own at five resorts, we can't seem to make up our minds which is our favorite. :goodvibes

What if you have 2 contracts for 2 different resorts? Can you transfer points from one contract to the other contract and then book it at 11 months? So, from OP's question, if they had 160 at AKV and bought a 40 point contract at BLT, could OP transfer 160 points to the BLT contract, for a total of 200 points, and book BLT at the 11 month window?

Transferred points retain their home resort.

Multiple resort ownership is important if you want the home booking advantage at each resort. Some resorts we want to book 11 months out and others we have no need to.

ITA with you. Owning at more than one resort takes extra planning. It's certainly possible to end up losing some points now and then if you aren't very careful.

Better add more than 25 pts :thumbsup2 You can always borrow or bank and borrow at BLT and go every other year there. I guess it depends on how many nights you want to stay at BLT and in what size unit.

OP, just wanted to point out that if you're new AKV contract has not closed, you may be able to have your guide modify it.

You could slightly decrease the number of AKV points (say 140 instead of 160) you are purchasing and add a small number of BLT points (say 45).

Using bank and borrow, this would give you most trips at AKV (satisfying you) and one trip every three years at BLT (satisfying your wife).

Just mentioning this in case you don't want to spend significantly more than your original AKV purchase. Basically, until your contract closes, many people have reported that Disney is willing to modify.
