Possibly a daft question about borrowing

Guys, what may be a stupid question, but all the stuff I have read is not clear on this scenario.

My question is, can you only borrow from the next calendar year, regardless of when the trip falls, or can you borrow from the year following the trip?

For example, if I want to book for Jan (our use year is Dec) and use more than 1 yrs points, can I use this years points, and some from my 2009 use year (thus borrowing from 2009 for 2008)? Or, as we are in 2007 can I only borrow from 2008 regardless of when the trip is planned for?

I know it sounds a little backward, but, by my reckonings if I could do this and decided on a last minute trip this year I would have all my 2008 points intact to borrow.

If I understand you right I think the answer is yes. It might help if I explain that you could use 3 years points for one trip - you could bank 2007 into 2008 and borrow from 2009 and use all the points in your 2008 year. Does that clarify at all?

I get the 3 yr thing, using that example, I suppose my question would be could I make the reservation in 2007?

And in my question, would there be any reason why I could not use 2007 and 2009 points and not touch 2008?

I am sure I am complicating things for no reasons, so sorry and thanks for the help.

You can make the reservation up to 11 months in advance at your home resort, so yes, you could book Jan 2008 now and use whichever points you want. I can't quite see why you would want to borrow from ahead rather than use earlier points (ie using 2009 points instead of 2008) but you could do it.

What you can't do is use 2007/8/9 points combined for any year other than 2008. You could use 2007/8 in 2007/8 and 2008/9 in 2008/9. I'm getting dizzy!

You can make a reservation any time 11 months before you want to travel (at your home resort) regardless of where the the points come from (banked, current or borrowed).

You can only bank points from your current use year and you can only borrow points from the following UY

If you banked 2007 points they would have to be used before the end of your UY in 2008. If you banked them in 2007 and wanted to make a trip in your 2007 UY you would have to borrow from 2008 UY to make the trip.

Thanks for the help guys, spoke with DVC and they answered the question, but I am still not too sure they get it!!

Can't borrow from 2009, until 2007 and 2008 are all used, which is the key thing.

Also, got a little confused as 2007 points are next years points, seems that the use year is when it starts, so, I'm actually talking about 2006, 7 and 8 (not 7, 8 and 9).

It is hard to explain what I wanted to do, so sorry for confusing anyone.

You can book cruises with points two years in advance. I wonder if you could use the 2009 points then as you would have to wait to book the seven month window stuff with your 2007 or 2008 points. so in a way you would think in this scenero you would be allowed to use the 2009 points!!!

the way i see it
our use year april
april 2007 200 points can use up to end of may 2008( by banking )
april 2008 200 points can borow them from april 2007 onwards or use them up to end of may 2009(by banking)
april 2009 200 points can borrow april 2008 or use them up to the end of may 2010(by banking)
Of cousre you still have the 11 month window to take into account

Matt, judging from what you have said, I think you are asking as follows:

If you book for Jan 2008 (as you now have) using current UY and next UY points (ie Dec 06-Dec 07 and Dec 07-Dec 08), can you then borrow points from the following UY (Dec08-Dec09) to make a reservation for this year as a last minute thing. Am I right?

If so, I think the answer is probably no as you are only able to borrow your 08-09 points into 07-08 UY and not 06-07 - does that reply make sense?

I always get a headache when trying to work out the points. I think it's having a dec use year that does it, because the points all end up in the wrong year.

You can only borrow points from the year following your holiday dates. So if I want to go in Jan 2008 I can use the points from that year, the year before or the year after.

The big question is when did you become a member. If you had your first points in Dec just gone(and haven't used them), then you can use 3 years worth of points next january, but no more.
