I've never been to Disneyland (WDW several times), and possibly have the chance to go in July. Tell me what you can about DL that will help me. I will only be there one day (unless there is a special 2 day ticket or something) and want to make the most of my time. Are fastpasses available? For what rides? Does it work the same way as it does at WDW?

I definitely want to do the attractions that are not at WDW, but am also interested in the other rides as well. How are they different? I'm not asking better or worse, but for instance . . . How do "It's a Small World" and "PoTC" differ at DL and WDW?

I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I am a voracious planner and like to have as much info as possible.

Thanks!:)

>>I will only be there one day (unless there is a special 2 day ticket or something)<< Keep checkin- DL often has some decent deals if ya keep your eyes peeled-

>>Are fastpasses available?<< Yup

>>For what rides?<< Almost all of the "big" rides- ie Thunder, Indy, Splash,Pirates, HM, Roger Rabbit for DL and Soarin, Screamin, Bug, Tower,Grizzly, Muholland Muppets at DCA

Pirates at DL makes WDW Pirates look like a fake.. The DL PotC blows the wdw one outta the water. The facade for Small World is amazingly better than WDW- the ride is very similar but we dont have the full water floating effect like wdw does... Haunted is also different enough its fun to see- Splash and Thunder are basically similar- Jungle is also different enough to see..

The main things Id recommed is our Fantasmic and Believe! Our Fantasmic also puts wdw to shame (that is if the Twain gets all better soon) and Believe is amazing :)I also recommend Snow White its the new show in Fantasyland and although I havent seen it yet Ive heard amazing things about it :)

Personally Id strive to do 2 days as especially in July you wont get to see DL in the way in needs to--

Comparing the rides at DL with the MK is a fun thing to do. First the rides you want to do that aren't at WDW are....

Indiana Jones. I would get a fast pass for this first then head over to do Peter Pan in Fantasyland. It is shorter than at WDW but prettier. This will eat some time so you can skip it if you want. Then do the Matterhorn Bobsleds also in Fantasyland, as this doesn't have fast pass. Ride the side by tomorrowland for a more thrilling ride and then the side by Alice in Wonderland for a mellower but slightly longer ride. Then do Alice in Wonderland and probably head back to Indy.
The other rides not at WDW are Pinnichio's Daring Journey in Fantasyland which usually doesn't have a big wait. Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin in Toontown which has fastpass.
Back in Fantasyland you can ride Casey Junior Circus train or the Storybookland Canalboats to see the beautiful miniature gardens and villages from many of the animated features. Both of these attractions take in the same area but you get a slower uplcose look via the boats and these usually have a longer wait.
Of the items that are at both DL and MK the biggest difference is at Pirates of the Caribbean so don't skip it. The Haunted mansion is very, very similar as is Big Thunder and Splash Mountain which is much better in WDW except for the final drop. The Disneyland Railroad is a hair shorter but has the dinosaurs that are similar to Universe of Energy. The Tiki Room is the original show and the Winnie the Pooh ride is similar but a hair different.
The Mark Twain River boat ( or the Columbia Sailing ship will take you around the river and has somewhat different sights than at WDW. President Lincoln has his own show in the theater at Town Square on Mains St.
it's a small world is a bit longer with more rooms but the sets are not as nice. The exterior is much better at DL.
In my opinion items you can skip if you have to are...
The Jungle Cruise
Tarzan's Tree House (formerly the Swiss Family lived here)
Tom Sawyer Island
Snow White's scary adventure (similar to WDW's but a bit different.
Honey I shrunk the Audience
Autopia
Innoventions
The sometimes have a two day park hopper pass available. You have to ask for it as it isn't listed. If you get a chance to go into Disney's California Adventure and spent some time, the main things to see are Soarin' over California, The Aladdin show, the animation Exhibit (near Aladdin) and Grizzly River Run. Paradise Pier has seaside rides and the Coaster is a fun one. Try to fit in a ride on one of the moving cars on the Sun Wheel

The only two attractions at this park that are at WDW are Muppet Vision and It's Tough to be a bug.

Sorry--just checked and the 2-day park hoppers are also available at www.disneyland.com so you don't have to have a Disney Store nearby. However, if you buy at the Disney Store you'll probably save on shipping.
