Hey everyone - In 2009 my DH and I are going to The Netherlands & Germany to visit family and friends. Since we are so close to Paris I've raised the subject of going but my DH has mentioned touring around Germany.... I'm a Disneymaniac so the decision is easy for me - but what can help me to convince him to indulge me in my Disneyquest again?

Well, I suppose that my question would be how long is your trip? Germany is a very large country so 'touring around' can take quite some time even just to see part of one or two states. While I am definitely a fan of the Disney parks, I always suggest that there is far more in the world to see than just Disney, and if someone has not been to Europe and/or Paris before, I don't suggest forgoing the real world just to go to Disney.

As to how to convince him? If you do feel that you have enough time in your trip, I would say that DLRP has the largest of any of the MK parks. There are several attractions unique to that park, and many of the popular attractions such as Pirates and Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain are better than in the American parks.

The food is better, it is easier to travel around the parks and resorts than in Florida, the weather is usually more forgiving, and the cast members are pleasant (if not outwardly friendly as in America - the European manner is simply different)

I visit a Disney park on average once every month or so, and DLRP is definitely ahead of WDW on my list of favourites.

I can't seem to edit my last post, but at the Studios Crush's Coaster, Cinemagique, and Stitch Live rival any of the best Disney attractions in the American parks.

As usuall I only can sign what Bavaria just said.
If you know how Disney works and if you are not going on a weekend 3 days can be more than enough to discover the two parks and to see the hotels at DLRP.
So that can leave some time to explore Germany.

And as Bavaria said: Germany is a huge country and every part is very different. (like in the USA)
Even if you only wanted to see the biggest cities (Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, NUREMBERG, Dresden and Cologne) you would need 2 weeks. And then there are also the Alpes in the south and the two seas in the north.

If your plans only allow for a day and you are nearby in Paris then I think you would enjoy the magic that Disneyland Paris has to offer :goodvibes

Having travelled quite a distance to get to mainland Europe there will be so many pressures on your time with the variety of things to see.

As a Disneyholic myself I'd be doing my best to persuade my travelling companions that this would only make our trip even more enjoyable :goodvibes

Well, we will have approx a week to sightsee either Germany or Paris.

I do realize there is more to the world than just Disney but I can't resist wanting to go since we are so close. I don't know when we be able to go back again.

Any hints or suggestions are appreciated.

Then honestly my hint is only to go for a day, from Paris, if you absolutely NEED to go. What I mean is take a room in Paris, and take the train for a day. I often do that when working in Paris. Be at the park for opening, plan to spend most of the day in the Magic Kingdom park, see the Studios, and return to Paris that night.

But a week to cover even a small corner of Germany and Paris and Disney is not enough time at all, so I would not recommend it to a first or second time visitor.

After almost 4 decades and thousands of kilometres I have barely seen half of what Germany has to offer, and I have seen more than most of my fellow countrymen and women. Same with Paris after countless visits. But to each their own.

Also, how do you plan to get from Germany to Paris? I suggest flying - about an hour flight from FRA and 90 minutes from MUC. Taking a train will take quite a big longer from most parts of western Germany. Also, you mention Holland - are you going from there? as your time is very short, flying is most likely the best option for you (depends from where you are coming). Would you fly into AMS and home from Paris? that would also give you some time.

yes we are thinking of flying into Amsterdam and then out of wherever we end (Germany or Paris).

It will be a first time visit to Paris but not Holland or Germany.
