Possible to reuse shirts??

I've got a couple of shirts from our trip in May where the design has fadded and the transfer is starting to rip and break off the shirt. Is there anyway to safely remove the entire old transfer so we can use them again??

I did post this question once and was only told by one person you could try and do a dark iron-on over the old one or something like that. Unfortunately, I think it's hopeless to reuse! Bummer!

I have tried once... I had to hand pick all the cracking pieces off... OMG, it takes forever and its very hard to get them all. For all the time, it is much more worth it to just buy new shirts. Most stores are clearancing their t-shirts right now.
