Possible to add Dining Plan during stay?

I've got a stay booked at AKL for 8 nights next month. We normally do the dining plan, but we normally only stay about 5 nights. I don't want to do the dining plan for 8 nights ($$$), but wondered if anyone has ever added the dining plan on mid-stay? I've added it and paid on check-in before. Ideally, I'd like to spend 4 nights and then add on the dining plan for the last five. Anybody tried this? I can't imagine they'd want to turn down dining money...

the dining plan can be added to points stays, but it must be for the whole party and for every night of the stay.

That's what I thought, but I didn't know if anybody had tried to add it mid-stay. For the four of us it'll cost $1200 for 8 days, so unless I find out otherwise, we'll just book 4 TS and pay out of pocket. I will really miss the snack credits, though...

I was told last year when I wanted to add dinning to my SSR for the eight of us that we had to do it at least 3 days before check in and has to be paid in full at check in. Had to do it for everyone in the room for all seven nights.

Can't add DDP after the 3 day prior to check in mark unless they have changed the rules.

No you can't. The dining plan must be added to a DVC reservation no later than 48 hours before arrival, and must be purchased for all persons listed on the reservation for the full length of the reservation.

You'd need to book a split stay - 4 nights with no dining plan, then a separate reservation for the remaining nights with dining plan.

I don't know of anyone who's tried midstay but I do know of people who were supposed to have it booked but it wasn't listed correctly and had great trouble getting it added even when it should have been. As noted, you'd have to do a none linked split stay to get it for less. You might consider staying off property on arrival and/or departure. Or you could plan to use up extra credits by using at more expensive options or eating out more than 2 times a day. It's likely your cheapest and best option is to forego the DDP for this trip.

Those two reservations could not be linked and you would probably have to move.

You could make one res in DH's name as the primary guest, and the other in DW's. Then the "system" probably wouldn't try to link them.

Can anyone help me with this scenario? We are going to VWL from Dec 19 throught he 25'th I have meal plan reserved for my family of six people who will be with us the whole time but the problem is that my other child and his spouse will only be coming in on the 23'rd for two nights. I will not be able to add them on the dining plan, but will they have troublr getting a room key or be able to use ME?

ME is for guests staying at a WDW resort. Unless your DS's and DDIL's names are on the reservation as guests, I don't see how they could use ME. And if they are on the list of guests they would be included in your DP.

I have seen post/threads where people say they added a family member to their room the day after check in and those people were not included in the DP but the new guests were given a KTTW card. I'm still not sure how to get ME for the late arriving pair though.

They would have to be part of your reservation in order to use ME. Since this has to be arranged in advance, I don't think you could add them after check in.

The only way I could see them being able to use ME would be to book a room at one of the value resorts for the nights they will be there and then just stay in you room with you. They would not have a KTTW at VWL, but it might be cheaper to do this than having to pay for all those nights of the DDP that they won't be there.

Of course, if you did add them, you could use those extra credits for some signature meals, etc. for the rest of you.

Your only choices would be to add them and pay for the DDP for all days for them, having a split stay or getting separate rooms for them. It would not be honest to sneak them in just to avoid following the DDP rules.

All indications are that it is realtivaly rare to have to move if you "split" your stay. MS has no incentive to have to do another complete room cleaning. You do have to check out and in but that is just paperwork (and plastic). You do want to let them know that you have a another sequential reservation in the same class room at check in.

True up to a point. If the units are the same type and you plan appropriately it is unlikely to have to move but you do have to check in again as you state. If they are different unit types you will have to move. Technically even if you don't move you are entitled to a new cleaning in such a situation but it seems they are variable on how often then actually do this, frequently not doing so. It does vary with the resort to a degree, AKV is likely one of the easier to deal with in this situation but not as easy as say OKW/SSR.
