Hi there, I posted this over on the budget boards because that is where the people that do fridge swaps hang out. A moderator suggested that I post it there. I got an email from someone that suggested I post it here. I was going to post it here once I figured out how to go about doing it but as you can see there were two people that had some good things to say.
I copied and pasted it so all you fine people could see what was said. I really feel they have some very good points. Here it is.
I need advice on how to get a tent swap going for Fort Wilderness
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please give me advice on what is the best way to get one started. Thanks, Lisa

Posts: 644 Call me crazy, but it would seem to me that participating in a 'tent swap' would be very risky...far more so than a fridge swap.
If a fridge disappears, or takes extra time to find, one only needs to put their stuff on some ice in a bucket or cooler to get by.
If something happens to the tent, and a family is counting on finding it when they check in, where do they sleep? Or they end up spending some $$ at the local WalMart or Target to buy themselves a new tent.

While I do like the idea of fridge and coffee maker swaps the reality of them are that sometimes they get lost or misplaced.
For ex: I was in a fridge swap and the fridge disappeared just a few weeks before my turn. The coffee maker swap I was in worked out for me but then the coffee maker disappeared a few people after me.
Now, it's no big deal to go without a fride or coffee maker but having your families "accomodations" missing when you arrive is an entirley different matter. What would someone do at check-in when the place where they are living for the next week can't be found? Many people go without a vehicle of their own and use only Disney transportation; so a quick run to Wal-mart to pick up a new tent isn't always an option.
Sorry to rain on your parade but I just don't see how anyone would go for this. Now, a bike swap, or fishing pole swap, etc... those might work.
