Unions have called cast members to go on strike on march 30th and 31st if they can't reach an agreement on wages.
There are 2 different calls for strike, one on each day by different unions

They ask a 4 to 5% raise in wages, a 25% bonus on sunday pay, and a 359 euro bonus for 20th anniversary events

march 31st is the official launch date for 20th anniversary and will be the press event day

So far there was no response on the part of the management

Wow - they are quite hefty demands in the current climate aren't they.

I had (maybe wrongly) presumed staff would be given extra pay (perhaps not bonus, but extra hourly pay) for extended park opening? Having said all that, I don't know what kind of wage CMs get and when they last had a pay rise etc so not really that qualified to comment, merely just comparing to the UK really.

I don't think there are many people get 4-5% pay rises in the UK these days, in fact the norm seems to be pay freezes :scared1::eek:... Meanwhile, the cost of living continues to rise and rise.

Keep us informed won't you chmurf. Could prove a disaster with the press launch etc! :rolleyes1

Heard something about this on the radio .... it could be worse as they could called for a day of action on the 12th ;)

It's impossible to compare the different countries wage and working conditions as there are too many different factors that come into play.

The right to strike is a constitutional right and I think the impact would be slight should it go ahead.

They will be certainly a lot of negociations going on over there this coming weekend/week :sad2:

I appreciate that you cannot wholly compare working conditions/pay etc in other countries and to some extent I agree (tell that to an Economics teacher though!). However, I think it is fair to say that there are not many countries who are economically comfortable in the current climate. Therefore, at present, wage increases of 4-5% are certainly not the norm in most places.... :confused3 I think that is a valid point ;).

Having said that, as I said earlier, I don't profess to know the ins and outs of CMs pay/conditions etc. But, I hope that 'they' manage to sort it out and reach an agreement in order to avert strike action :sad2:.

This is similar to the UK unions demands for extra payments for when the Olympics are on. Standing up for their members who have to work extra because of a special event. OR holding the employers to ransom becuase they know they (employers) won't want the Olympics / 20th Anniversay celebrations disrupted - depends on your point of view ;)

That's the way of all negociations though - the unions always ask for way more than what the patrons want to give and it works out in the middle :lmao:

I've always known individual wage increases and where OH works the unions are strong and they get good results in pay negociations

At the end of the day when you go for a job you weigh up the for and againsts in terms of pay and conditions and then you decide what is possible for you.

I wouldn't be working for them to get rich that's sure ;)

Totally agree, they ask for more and hope to meet somewhere in the middle. It ends up being a game of 'cat and mouse'.

As for the olympics, my DH will be involved in some of the 'cover/security' side of things, because of the nature of his job he will receive no remuneration for it (other than the norm). It depends on the job you do, and yes, I guess you know the terms of your job when you sign up.

Again, I don't know what CMs get paid, but I'm with you on that point Carrie, I don't think they'll get rich quick solely by working at DLRP....

I don't think DLRP needs the bad press associated with this if it does go to live strikes though. However, it does make you wonder what CMs have been offered for the extra hours they will have to work to cover the 'extended opening' this year and how much notice/choice they were given over it all :confused3.

Well if it helps, no one has asked me to strike :confused3:

Disney pay standard wages and above, you get holiday, you get benefits and then some it's an excellent company to work for, the workers here cannot really moan (well they can but there's not much to moan about)

Plus it's Disney, if you're going to strike on the most important weekend of their calendar it's not like given the current economic climate they wouldn't be able to just replace you... For every one person that doesn't want their job at least 20 people from all over the world are in line waiting for it! So it's best not to give it up to easily ;)

Rumours rumors rumors...

Depends in what area you are employed, there is some big money floating around Disney including one of the jobs I'm drafted in for. When they offered me the contract I nearly fell off my chair but sadly it's not regular although I'm working on it... :rotfl:

This is a bit more than a rumour as 3 unions(FO, CFTC and Unsa) have deposed their motion to strike on the 30th, and if necessary the 31st, with the authorities

They can strike without fear of losing their jobs as it's a non sackable offense and they have done in the past.

Christmas 2009 is an example

That sort of manifestation is inadmisible and I hope not to see it again in the park this weekend :sad2:

There's plenty of paperwork around the place about it, there always is but noones openly talking about it, just asked my friend who is one of the managers to be sure and he just shrugged his shoulders in that non plussed French way. I wouldn't worry.

I'm well aware of the history and there's plenty of paperwork around the place about it, there always is, but noones openly talking about it in a 'Vive la revolution' way. To be sure I have just asked my friends one who is one of the technical managers, the other is a ticketing manager, both just shrugged his shoulders in that non plussed French way. I wouldn't worry.

This is happening today as no agreements were met.

There was a group of strikers outside the RER station early this morning and Radio Disney Club has posted on FB around 20 minutes ago that a smoke device had been thrown at Discoveryland station :sad2:

Confirmed Stars and Cars was cancelled today in the Studios and OUAD parades last performance is on standby

I follow Jonathan Ross on twitter, and today he tweeted this:

We are at Disneyland Paris for the 20th anniversary. There's a dispute and Strikers march down Main st. Worst Disney parade .

Sounds interesting!
